Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Engine Systems Fault After Egr Blank

Interesting, i'll take the computer out at some point tomorrow, see if i can persuade the light to come on. The mechanic who fitted the plate did break the MAP vacuum pipe and replace it with a non-ford pipe. The new pipe isn't shaped like the old one, although it appears to be the same diameter etc. Wonder if it makes a difference.
  2. Engine Systems Fault After Egr Blank

I checked it via the OBDII port using my mobile - no errors showed. I could check it with the laptop, my gut feeling says nothing will show up though.
  3. Engine Systems Fault After Egr Blank

EML isn't on, just the little read light by the display comes on, apparently at random. But wow, the performance difference is worth it. Low down acceleration is much improved, all hesitation gone.
  4. Engine Systems Fault After Egr Blank

Yeah, that is what I've done up till now, take it up to the govener leaving a roundabout on the local dual carriageway. My main issue/worry leading to the blank is I am doing more and more crappy little runs round town - i'd really like to trade it in for a petrol, but I cannot afford it.
  5. Just been to the garage to get the leaky cooler gasket replaced and the egr blanked. Driving home I recieved an "Engine Systems Fault" and the little red light on the dash. Checked for DTC codes, nothing showing. Anybody else come across this after disabling the EGR on a 1.8 tdci MK2 ?
  6. Mk2 Electrical Issue

HI, My cars developed another weird and wonderful electrical problem. Basically the instrument cluster always indicates the headlights are illuminated sometimes. Seems unpredictably random when it decideds to do it. Normally this results in the cluster LCD staying illuminated long after the engine is off (not 100% its the cause, but seems to corrolate). Makes no difference if the light switch is on or off, or even disconnected from the car. There is no bonging when opening the with the lights switched off, and the lights aren't illuminated. Any ideas where to start? I've had the cluster out and double checked the connection at the back. Earth points are my next stop. Unsure where to look for them though. Any input welcome :)
  7. Jeebowhite, extensive research thus far suggests that a new igniton barrel will cure your problem, something to do with the microswitch on the steering lock not being depressed properly when removing the key. However, once it is off it will not come back on if that is the problem. I think Stoney may have correctly guessed the source of my problem - the fuse box under the bonnet. Here is a photo of it when I opened it up (I removed the ECU fuse to have a look under it - mild corrosion on the bottom most pin). I'm guessing here, but I believe the last person who took the lid off didn't refit it correctly, and it has filled with dirt. Is it likely this is the cause? If so, how difficult is it to remove the box and give it a proper clean? (only the photographed area is affected)
  8. The main one as in the one in the cabin (central fuse box)? Cars "asleep" again now, but i'll get it down and have a look at it tomorrow.
  9. Hi all, Dashboard problem - previously it has stayed on now and again, and going out and jiggling the key about in the ignition and waiting an hour has cured it. Not tonight. Car was last used yesterday evening, and went to sleep straight away. Looked out the window, and the display had lit up again circa 3 hours after I left the car, and 2 since i'd last checked and seen it off. Went out, jiggled the keys about and it went off with in an hour. Double checked this morning, and it was still off. Didn't use the car today, but this evening i look out the window, and the display has lit itself up again all on its own. On the common problems thread, it suggests this can be mended by bbereman cheaply - no other information than that. My question is what (or who) is bbereman and will he be able to fix it, or is it more likely to be a knacked ignition barrel? Only other thing "wrong" with the car i've seen recently, is a couple of weeks ago it was showing the lights as lit on the dashboard, and they definitely were not switched on. Lights have been on pretty much every journey since. Any ideas for a DIY fix, or is it to the garage again - I can't afford to let the battery go flat. Cheers, Nick
  10. "engine System Fault"

Car is currently at the garage, they're going to clean the EGR out, see if that makes any difference. They say the engine is struggling to regulate fuel pressure as well, going to try some injector cleaner on the next tank, see if that helps.
  11. "engine System Fault"

Update - Read the codes with OBDII software when the EML came on - Got "Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit High". Split pipe or bust EGR? Thoughts?
  12. "engine System Fault"

All it says under DTC is "None." One of the reasons im at a loss.
  13. "engine System Fault"

Thanks stoney, i'll try a couple of Gallons of v power next time I fill up, if that doesn't sort it ill add wynes. Cheers for your help.
  14. "engine System Fault"

Hi all - this looks like a pretty good forum, just a shame my first post is trying to diagnose a fault. I bought my car last week - partial service history, all good for the first few days. On the way back from a night out, it displayed the error message "Engine System Fault" and the little red light came on. Quick google suggested it was the fuel filter, so the car was booked in and the filter changed. Yesterday the car was fine, did over 50 miles in it just driving around the twistys enjoying the chassis. Today, driving out to halfords to get some car wax, the light came on again. The car does not seem down on power when the message flags up, but it may be, ive not really pushed hard enough in it yet to find out. The only thing ive noticed is about 5 minutes after the engine is on, it starts rattling at a rate that increases with engine speed - most audible at 1500 and 3k RPM, and the message has flagged up when this noise has been at its worst. The noise is not always there, but was most noticable at this point. Any ideas would be great - I don't want to spend money chasing ghosts, especially if its the flywheel or waterpump thats shagged. Car is a 1.8 TDCI, 120K on the clock. Camblet done, had all bar the antifreeze changed in the last fortnight. Thanks in advance.
