Posting in General Chat thread.   11/11/2017

it has been noted that too many Members are posting messages in the General Chat area instead of the correct Forums. Any messages posted in the General Chat area that are not General Chat will be deleted without warning and offenders may recieve warning points if repeated instances are seen from that Member. There are plenty of different Club areas that encompass 99% of Ford related posts, please select and use the correct one. If anyone is not sure of which area to post something then feel free to P/M myself or other Senior Staff for guidance. The Moderating Staff are having to spend far too much time chasing this problem instead of maintaining the other areas of the forum.

  1. Lighs flash on start up

Mornin All, When I start the engine the lights give a once only flash. The light switch is off - any ideas what could be causing this? I have a 2006 Focus 1.8 Deisel. Carlukeman
  2. Focus 1.8 Duratorq TDCi Engine Layout

I just thought I should let you guys know that the problem was a leaking Intercooler Pipe which is now replaced and all is fine. I got the garage to check the "Error Message" that I was getting "Engine Ststems Failure" and they said all is okay now - they lied! Last night when my wife was driving home in the rain she gat the same message, the car ground to a halt and she waited a few minutes and restarted the car - no other warning lights were illuminated. I feel this is an extremely dangerous thing to happen and am going to write to Ford about it. Anyway, I thank you again for your help. John
  3. Focus 1.8 Duratorq TDCi Engine Layout

Thanks mintalkin, I will try to locate this pipe tomorrow in daylight. The problem will be establishing where on the pipe the problem is because the leakage only occurs when the car is running and I give the accelerator a bit of welly. The extra power requirement generates the problem. But thanks for your help. Kind Regards, Carlukeman
  4. I have a problem with my Focus 1.8 Duratorq TDCi (2006 Model), I searched the forum and came up with someone with the exact same problem. It is like an Air sound when I increase the acceleration. I also experienced a fault message at one point; "Engine Systems Fault". After which I lost power and ground to a halt. After turning of the ignition, waiting a few minutes, and restarting, the fault was not there and all seemed fine, but the Woosh of Air was still present when accelerating. The previous advice to the old post was that it was probably the Turbo or possible the pipe to the intercooler that is the problem. Before I take the car to the Ford Garage, could anyone advise on where I will locate the pipes in question? I am sorry to appear ignorant of this, but if it is just a matter of replacing or tightening a pipe clip, then I would give it a go myself. I have searched for an engine diagram on-line without success. Thanks, Carlukeman
  5. Irritating rear end rattle

Hi All, I thought I should let you all know that I have had my Rattling Ford Focus repaired. The problem turned out to be the hand brake. Six to seven weeks after having my (All round) disc brake pads replaced the car developed a terrible rattle from the rear end. When I applied the brakes the rattle stopped. After a few goes at trying to find the fault, the mechanic at our local garage here in Spain suggested that it might be a missing rubber grommet in the hand brake cable. I explained the other potential solutions given by you guys and he set about the job this morning. I returned after a coffee and the car was waiting for me. The problem was the hand brake and the solution was simple - an adjustment. It turns out the pads were rattling because they were not set at the correct distance. The conclusion; The Brit garage that changed my disc pads were crap, which resulted in 4 visits to the local garage and a lot of wasted time. The good news is, Paco only charged me €15 - what a gem of a guy. Guess where I'll be going in future. Thanks again Hammie and Coxie, Regards, John
  6. Irritating rear end rattle

Hi Coxie and Hammie, Thank you both for your replies. I know the mechanic greased some part in the brake assembly and the noise disappeared for about 30mins and then returned as bad as ever. So, perhaps he used the wrong grease or it might mean he needs to replace the pad carrier. I will let him know of your experiences and again, Thanks. John
  7. Irritating rear end rattle

Hi, My Focus has just developed the exact same problem as you were experiencing. It has been at the local garage 3 times now and the mechanic is pulling his hair out. When I left the garage on Friday, the mechanic told me he was going to contact Ford for advice. If you have mamaged to have your problem fixed, could you please let me know what the problem was and the eventual repair? Like you I had my brake pads changed just 5 or 6 weeks before the rattle appeard and when I apply the brakes it stops. Looking forward to your help. John
