Hi all,
A strange issue has appeared on my car and I'm struggling to find much information online. It's a 2016 S-Max 2.0 TDCi 180, with 62k miles on the clock.
It has started going into limp mode when the engine is under high load, such as accelerating on a motorway/dual carriageway whilst going uphill. It does not always happen, it only happens intermittently. Upon switching the engine off, it will not usually restart on the first attempt (just cranks and cranks) but will start normally start fine on the second attempt.
It has stored the following codes from the most recent occurence - P0251 (Injection Pump Fuel Metering Control A, signal amplitude less than minimum) and P0170 (Fuel Trim Bank 1). These are the only 2 codes stored.
I have done the obvious and replaced the fuel filter with a new genuine Ford one, and performed a full service as it was almost due anyway.
I would be grateful if anyone could shed some light on this for me, or suggest some diagnostic tests that I can perform in order to narrow this down. Would an injector leak off test be worth performing? There are no other symptoms, the car runs well and drives great, and it starts and idles smoothly on a cold start.
Many Thanks,
Fraser
