  1. Hello all, I have researched for hours, days, and cannot find SPECIFICALLY as to whether a 2005 Ford Focus 1.6ltr Ti-VCT engine is better on "super unleaded" 97-99 RON vs 95 Ron. All I want answered is a simple Yes or No. Seen too many threads turned into a war between people who claim they work or its a con, but none talking about this engine specifically. So THANKS for those IN THE KNOW about Fords 1.6 Ti-VCT engines and their experiences. cheers.
  2. Hi people, I'm keeping my MK2 diesel Focus and potentially looking to buy a 2nd car (for the wife). I noticed in the MK7, the 1.6 petrol appears to offer significantly more performance than the 1.4 whilst seemingly being able to still offer decent MPG, so it's the engine I'm looking at. Is there anything specific I need to look out for or checking in relation to MK7 in general (but especially the engine)?
  3. I've always been a little disappointed with the lack lustre acceleration and overall performance on my 1.6 Ti-VCT 2011 Focus. It was ok, but simply felt that it was underperforming on power. There seemed to be a little 'lag' on acceleration, getting the revs up past 3k, and related speed seemed non linear to me. It annoyed the hell out of me TBH. Despite Ford saying they could not feel anything wrong with the car after they took it out for a test drive, they upgraded the PCM and for a while it seemed better, but in hind sight that may have been because the PCM was 're learning' To cut a long story short, I have been trawling through the web, desperately trying to find a solution to this. I found this on the Focus Fanatics website: I was sceptical, but thought what the heck, and fitted a K&M filter (E-9289) and carried out the snorkel delete. Wow, what a difference that made to the performance, the linear acceleration is now how it should be, along with a beautiful air induction noise. Not had a chance to verify yet, but many are saying there maybe an increase to the MPG with these mods. Just wanted to share that with you guys, great mods and worth every penny. Now, all have to do is learn to fall back in love with my car now that it performs as I would expect!
  4. Good Evening, can anyone help me? I am trying to source a 3 piece clutch kit and timing belt kit with waterpump from that most respected of sources - ebay. Unfortunately different motor factors on there seem to provide different parts and I am very confused. Even my local motor factors has said they need to call technical support to confirm any parts! I am unable to get an engine variant code (e.g. EYDB, FXDA or HWDA etc, etc) from Ford who state the only information available is: Focus Zetec 1.6L Duratec 16v TI-VCT 115/120PS engine with 5 speed manual transaxle transmission. Can anyone help with the part numbers of appropriate Ford replacement parts, or better still, tge parts numbers from other suppliers - like LUK clutches. All help very gratefully received - against a bit of a deadline. Kind regsrds
  5. Hi, I invite you people to a little detective work. I recently bought a 2005 Estate with the 1.6 ti-vct engine. So far so good, I find it a good car. Yesterday I was looking around the engine, checking the air filter, fluids etc. when I noticed a loose plastic clip behind the engine on a hose. Wanted to attach it to something, when it came away completely with no resistance at all. It was jsut resting on top of other pipes. I tried to locate its origin but could not find anything. Please look at the photos and give some direction about its plae and function. I am a little worried now if it something very important.
  6. Hi, First post - having trouble with my Mk2 Focus: Owning a mk2 2005 1.6 Ti-VCT Focus Estate, the engine has recently developed troubles while starting. The engine starts to spin, but it just doesn't get going. At first it happened 1-2 times a week, then during a day. And now I have to start it 3-4 times before the engine properly starts. Doesn't matter if the car has been parked in the garage for the whole day and night, or if I just parked it for 5min and am starting it up again. A few times it starts immediately again, but lately that's rarely the case. Are there any suggestions, if there's something I could do in my own garage, check or swap something on the engine? I'm not that knowledgable when it comes to car-tech unfortunately... I will upload a video of the starting in a fewminutes, hopefully that helps.
