  1. Hey folks. Just had my oil and filter change plus MOT done by Arnold Clark today ( I know... It's my last "free" one with them) and they have noticed there is a recall for my car. Apparently it is not urgent but it does need doing and I am now booked in for it on the 5th Feb. Recall code is "17S09 Recall For 1.6L GTDI Cooling system" https://ford.oemdtc.com/2754/17s09-coolant-level-sensor-system-installation-2013-2015-ford The only info I can find on this online is all American. However it seems the risk is the engine can go on fire, which I find a bit weird to be classed as "not urgent". So, is this a thing for this country? Anyone had it done? I've done a search of the forum, but it came back with nothing...
  2. Hey all, Is the 1.0L ecoboost an interference engine? 2014 Fiesta, 60k miles - I had a coolant leak a few months ago, local garage thought it was the waterpump so replaced it. It still leaked so I took it back and they replaced it again. It still leaked so I took it back and they finally confirmed that it was a gasket behind the water pump on the timing belt cover. They replaced the whole cover and while they had the car in bits I got them to do the auxiliary drive belt and the timing belt too. Car has since been driven 700 miles and been fine. Last night, the cambelt went on a drive up North. Had just done 100 miles so stopped for a coffee, went back to the car and it would turn over but not start. I thought it was the timing belt as the lobes weren't moving (when looking through the oil fill cap) and RAC confirmed. Took me 10 mins to realise this so I turned the engine over a few times, didn't hear any nasty noises but is it likely that some of the valves will now be bent? And finally, since the engine timing will now be all off, should I be worried about a local garage replacing the belt and setting up the timing again? Cheers, Alan
  3. Hello all, First post here. I recently bought a 2013 1.0l ecoboost fiesta that has full service history and one previous owner. 33k miles on the clock. I've noticed some rust and corrosion on some of the engine parts, specifically two metal connectors that seem to go from the coolant pipe to the engine and then also possibly to the radiator (?) Should i get these replaced? Would it be a fairly cheap part replacement? Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers. Cameron.

    Mountune MP140 for Mk 8

For any purchasers of 125ps Mk8's who wish they'd gone for the 140, I see Mountune are now offering their MP 140 upgrade for £365.83 fitted at their Essex HQ.
  5. I'm hoping to get some advice on this £4,354.05 problem but first I need to tell the story ! I bought this 2013 Focus titanium 1L Ecoboost 2 years ago and had been very happy with it up until April when it suddenly lost power on the motorway with no instrument warning lights. Nothing much to see except a bit of steam and plenty of coolant splashed around the engine compartment. I was far away from home, visiting a relative in hospital in the West Midlands and I had to stay to make arrangements for them. Unfortunately I had limited internet access (just a small phone) so had no idea about these ecoboost engines being equipped with defective degas coolant hoses. I booked the car into a small independent garage near Cradley Heath railway station, returned home (North Yorkshire) and then went on holiday abroad a few days later. When I finally found out about the degas hose problem I contacted Ford who at first dismissed any notion of responsibility since I'd taken the car to a non-Ford dealer to get it repaired. But they gave me a reference number to pursue the case further once the repairs were complete, which they now are having paid £4,354.05 (reconditioned engine and turbocharger from Ford, other bits, labour & VAT). So any advice on the following would be a real help: How do I deal with the issue of not having used a Ford dealer? I found an independent garage, SMB Autocentre, that sounded competent, was well reviewed (on Motor Ombudsman site) and was near a railway station for ease of travel. They repaired the car with Ford parts and a reconditioned engine from Ford. An important point here is that I'd chosen this garage weeks before I discovered this was a preexisting problem with many ecoboost engines Frankly I don't see how my choice of repair garage detracts from Ford's responsibility for installing defective coolant hoses in the first place. Does anyone know of any car owners taking legal action against Ford for this same problem? Any useful tips in getting some cooperation from Ford? As yet I haven't got back to Ford with list of final repair costs. For all I know they might be quite helpful, I just want to be prepared really. Thanks in advance for any help, Nick
  6. Hi all, I have just had my front discs and pads replaced and was wondering if they need to be broken in? Car is a 2013 manual Ford Fiesta 1.0 ecoboost Titanium X and OE parts were used. If they do need to be broken in what is the procedure? Best regards, TheScoobyCollector.
  7. Just curious about how many miles have people done with their cars equipped with 1.0 Ecoboost engines. Also it would be interesting to hear if you've had any problems with them and what kind of maintenance/fixing the engines have required during that mileage. My car is late 2014 model Fiesta with 125 bhp 1.0 Ecoboost. It has been driven about 27 000 miles (44 000 km) now. During my ownership I've driven about 7000 miles and had no problems whatsoever. No oil consumption or leakage and no loss of coolant.

    Ecoboost cooling system.

Hi all, I have the 1.6 ecoboost and had been looking coolent, found it had been slowly leaking from the join in the heater matrix pipes is the footwell(seems pretty common). Anyway I replaced the O rings in the pipes and when I was refilling and bleeding the system I noticed the top radiator hose was cool and the lower was very hot, is this normal? I have heat in the car, the pipes entering and leaving the heater matrix are both hot? The coolent in the tank was warming up. Am I right in just running the engine with the expansion tank cap of or is there another way to bleed the system out? Cheers
  9. Hi guys. - apologies if this has been already asked, I have searched the forum and spent the best part of an hour flicking through topics on this section.... I've recently picked up a 1.0 125 ecoboost zetec and I'm starting to look into the mods that I can get for it. So far im looking into the bluefin remap, airtek intercooler, turbosmart dual port valve and a replacement air filter (either itg or pipercross) im reluctant to look at induction kits as they sound horiffic and im looking for more of an understated build..... With that said, Im looking around for a replacement exhaust, now i know Milltek sell sports exhausts for the Fiesta, but I cant seem to find anyone who makes them for the Focus... Are there any about (looking for cat back ideally)? or is it a case of popping to my local Longlife centre for a custom s/s exhaust (luckily theres one about 15 miles from my house and have used them before for my old focus) Many thanks in advance.
  10. Running a mk7.5 ecoboost, is a catch can a good thing to have? The new mk8 ST has dual injection to clean off the engine of oil gunk so I'm thinking having something to remove the oil vapours would be a decent thing to have. If they are good, any recommendations?

    EcoBoost 140ps performace

Hi All New to here , I have just purchase a Fiesta Zetec S Red which has the EcoBoost 1.0 140ps tune in it It drives nice and I love the sound of it , One thing I have noticed though it seems to perform well in 1st gear 2nd Gear it drive good not a ferocious at 1st Gear but good. But if you drive it hard to the limiter in 2nd gear and then throw it into third there is like a delay in the pickup . For instance you change rapid into 3rd , it revs ok and then all of a sudden it gets to 5000 rpm and then you get a rush and it pulls again to the redline ?? Now is this a possible Boost Problem or is it the variable cam timing that may be an issue ? Also I know that it was so called serviced before I bought it and I very much doubt if the recommended 5-20w oil was used more like standard 5-30w instead I wonder if this makes a difference also being a highly strung engine. Would like to get this sorted as soon as because I want to put a Bluefin Map on it soon. Lots of Questions I know Thanks for any comments or advise Steve

    1.0 Ecoboost 140ps upgrades.

Hi everyone, I'm taking delivery of a new St Line X 1.0 EcoBoost 140PS soon ( I've had the 125PS model for a couple years and fancied a little upgrade) ...and was wondering what upgrades i can do to the air Induction and headlights.. Can anyone point me in the right direction towards filters and Hose Upgrades.. I've done a bit of research and most results come up with the fiesta ecoboost model. I suppose my question is will fiesta pipes and filters fit the focus, especially as its the same engine i believe. Thanks in advance :-)
  13. Hi all, i am new to the forums and just wanted to ask you guys for a bit of help, have recently just replaced my air filter from OEM to a K&N Performance filter, as i was taking it off one of the screws that secure the top lid fell underneath the engine bay and i cant seem to find it, has anyone got any ideas where i can get a replacement screw (currently has 3/4 screws securing the unit) will this affect the car or do any damage not have the extra screw? its a MK3 Focus 1.6 Ecoboost Zetec S Cheers
  14. Hey! I have a Cobra sport Cat Back for the fiesta 1.0 ecoboost for sale if anyone is interested? It was on my car for about 3 weeks until I put my car back to stock to pick up an ST 😜 I believe I have all the gaskets and bolts for fitting, open to offers if anyone is interested? In pristine condition!
  15. Hi guys. I am having a problem with my 14 plate fiesta mk 7.5, I have keyless entry and today i went to use the button on the handle on the passenger side which has stopped working. My driver side is still functional. So I am slightly baffled. Could anyone please share some advice on what to look for. I havr checked the fused for keyless entry they are both fine. thanks in advance
  16. Hi guys, A couple of months ago my 2014 Fiesta Ecoboost (125ps) had a failed fuel pump and broke down. A replacement fuel pump (genuine Ford part) was fitted by my trusted local independent and I was back on the road. A week later I was accelerating hard at high revs onto a dual carriageway in second gear, and it suddenly had a brief hiccup, as though I had hit the rev limiter (which I hadn’t). Later that week I did the same thing, full throttle and got the cut out. I now know it happens at 5600rpm, and it clears as soon as the engine gets past that speed. This happens 90% of the time that I go past 5600rpm. The car has been back to the garage twice for this; the first time they checked the fault codes, cleared a fault on the exhaust temperature sensor, but to no avail. The issue hasn’t generated any more fault codes either. The second time they road tested it, changed the spark plugs, retested and reported that it now happens less frequently (but still happens). I only got it back today, but my tests have shown it’s a bit less frequent, but it still happens. Time will tell if it does actually reduce the frequency, but it’s still not fixed either way. I’m convinced this didn’t happen before the new fuel pump, but the garage are very confident that’s not at fault (but so far are doing this investigation free of charge ). I’m wondering if changing the spark plugs making an improvement of any sort indicates a problem with ignition, or just that there is a loose connection somewhere under the bonnet that’s been jiggled a few times in the work that’s been done on it lately. Has anybody come across this before, or got any suggestions please? Thanks :)
  17. Evening all Monday coming will see me collecting my new (to me) 2015 Focus Zetec S 125 Ecoboost after 20 years of driving various diesel engined Land Rovers, a VW T5 and even a Vauxhall Zafira (but don’t hold that against me 😉). My last Ford was a 1.8 Escort Si in Amparo Blue and before that various other Escorts and Fiestas (Mk 2, 3 and 4). Hoping to pick up some ideas and tips and join in where I can along the way, cheers.
  18. I have not found so far anyone else on this topic but I do find the six speed box is a bit optimistic for the 1 lite ecoboost engine. Don't get me wrong, this a fine and very practical car but with a moderate holiday load on motorways top gear is way too high for such a low torque engine. I have to run in fifth virtually all the time. And then, on steeper mountain roads the engine is again a bit weak on torque, needing low gears a lot of the time. In fact on the Spanish Sierras third proved pretty good for 35-45 cruising on tight two lane mountain roads. But there was never any way of using a higher gear. In terms of economy in 2,000 miles on Spanish roads, mixed this tear we got 37 mph real which was not too bad (mind you I switched from diesel so it is taking time to get used to that sort of consumption!). On that note by the way I have allowed for petrol versus diesel in my top comments - its NOT the engines really - just too many gears way too high ratio.
  19. Hi all, I have got a Fiesta 63 plate, with a 1.0-litre engine (Ecoboost). I had a warning light notification come up for low oil. Dip-stick checked and everything was filled okay. Whilst car was running, I removed the oil filler cap (wanted to see if oil was getting to the top of the engine; didn't seem much there; see video). What struck me was the noise - Ford has said these engines usually sound like this, but I'm not convinced. Please, could you have a listen and get back to me? I can't upload on here as there is a 2MB limit :/ Please see youtube for the video.
  20. Hey guys i have seen some videos and these cars (182) sound great with the focus rs airbox would the equivalent not be cutting a hole in the top of the stock airbox? excuse my ignorance lol :)

  22. Find myself asking for help more than I’ve been able to help on here haha i put a cobra sport cat back on my fiesta ecoboost 1.0 and it sounded so good. I’ve recently part exd it for an ST, but kept the cobra exhaust. Would this fit onto the ST? i get anything can be made to fit with the right sleeves or cuts, but I’m wondering if it will just... fit? cheers!
  23. Hey guys, i was driving the car today and as i revved up to 4k rpm the power dropped off, i got the above engine warning light, the power significantly dropped until i got home, i drove it 2 hours later(no engine warning after restart) and it was fine until i gave it hard acceleration and the exact same problem reoccurred. the car has 57k miles. i wont be able to have it looked at until next week, any ideas on what could be the issue? thanks in advance for the advice guys :)
  24. Today marks a full year since I have had my MK3 Focus TITANIUM. What better way to celebrate this than to share some of the little changes I have done to it as it became my little project. Given that I am a menace when assembling things, I chose to let people with skill help me out rather than break things myself. Without further ado, please find below my little pride and joy. 1. Delivery. Last year this time, i went to pick up the keys. I was extremely excited and also fed up with the waiting. I ordered my car during a period where the Factory in SAARLOUIS is pretty much closed. Consequently, I had an extra 1.5 months delay on my delivery and when I saw it in the showroom I fell in love with the colour. I chose the DEEP IMPACT BLUE because of the catalogue. I really liked the way it was and in my mind the contrast with all those chrome bits and pieces would work. While this is subjective, I believe the blue suits the Focus perfectly and if you get the extra chrome parts around the car you get some nice results. As it was October, I told my dealer to put the winter wheels on straight away. There was no point for 3 weeks of summer tires and then go back to the garage and put the winter tires. In my area, winter tires are a must and the law enforces solid behaviour regarding this. My car arrived with the classic 16 inch alloys with 215 Continental Winter Tires. Not the best but now that I look back, they were solid and I will put them back next week :). Some annoying squeal on rain but grip on ice is good. This is how the little monster looked on delivery. It had less than 100 km in this picture. 2. Spring and Summer When the time arrived, I quickly went to my dealer and told them to put my summer tires on. I chose 18 inch alloys and decided to put Michelin Pilot Sport 3 as i had some experience with them. I am running 235/18/40 W tires and they are fun as hell. Comparing to how it originally looked, the wheels changed the car completely. I have no issue running these wheels contrary to what people say around these forums, when people want to upgrade from 17 to 18. After cruising for thousands of KM with the car, I came to the conclusion that if I am going to enjoy the car more, I needed to get rid of some of the body roll and twitching on braking. As I have the autobahn 40 km away from my house, unlimited speeds are quite common there. My country has a plethora of twisty roads so that body roll had to go or else. I then started looking into the one thing that could help with that : a suspension. Given that I was no stranger to suspensions, I have a second Ford, clipper, with a Bilstein Eibach combination, I was trying to make up my mind what to get. I looked into Bilstein, I looked into quite a few brands and then I settled for KW. A mate of mine has a TT RS with a KW Clubsport 3 way and after a few laps on the Nurburing with that, I said, KW is the way to go. I then had another dilemma. Which KW to get? They offered 3 possibilities for my car. After a few sleepless nights, I decided to go for the V3. It gave me everything I wanted in terms of adjustments and if decided to go hardcore, I would be able to do some corner balancing as well. After 3 days of wait, my KW V3 was built in germany and shipped. Two more days passed and the DHL van arrived with my brand new suspension. ...and of course the final result. Once this was on, the car was reborn. I started to lose contact with the brake pedal. Left turn, just accelerate and turn, right turn, press the accelerator and turn the wheel. The stability I gained from this suspension pays for itself every day I get in my car. Funny story, when i went to pick up my car, I wanted to sit down and pretty much fell because after so many months of sitting down in a certain position, the car was significantly lower. The mechanic laughed at me and said i should be careful now because the car is lower. After a few weeks, the suspension broke in and lowered a bit more. Springs were not as rough, however, the unavoidable coil rattle at low speeds is present. A small price to pay for a car that corners so well you will pretty much overtake on the inside on the outside above or even under. It goes wherever you point it and will not complain. The roll is minimal and the grip on braking is difficult to describe. Something worth noting here, the suspension is a good way to improve handling and to get confidence at higher speeds. Unfortunately, one does not need to forget that if things do go wrong they will go wrong. No doubt about that. A month in and i was already thinking of my next change to my car. What could I do to make it even more enjoyable? I made a few phone calls and I was given an offer for a remap. I set up the appointment and went to the guys who offered the service. They looked at my car and said I should not worry, the 1.5 ecoboost, rated at 150 hp, does not have 150 hp. I has between 170 and 175 on the dyno. Ford detuned the 182 version but not as much as some think. I was surprised to hear this and did not actually believe him. He ran my car 3 times and it averaged 175 HP without any modification. He then proceeded to load the new mapping and now the car has over 200 HP @5000 rpm. They also installed a cotton BMC airfilter and advised I change my sparkplugs every 15000 km to make sure all is in good order. The original Ford mapping was not bad but it was difficult to access. I drove through the Alps, the Chamonix area, and those hills up required me to constantly keep my car 4500 to 5500 for it to pull when I needed it too. This was annoying on the standard mapping and the new map gives me pretty much everything between 2780 and 5000 rpm. Much better mid range acceleration and lower consumption. 3. Winter and short term I doubt many cars, for the price range, handle the way my car does. I also doubt many, similar engine, burn rubber the same way, however, I must admit, others sound better. I am truly disappointed in the 1.5 Ecoboost and the sound. My significant other has a Fiesta which i helped her choose. We added a 3 cylinder ecoboost engine which sits at 165 hp with a pipe cross air filter. The car sounds beautiful and whenever I am in mine i just cringe. Having said that, I decided to change things a little bit. Some may have seen, I opened a thread on these boards regarding a rear valence. My car does not have Zetec or ST bumpers. It has the classic MK3 ones and flexibility is not really there if I want to change the exhaust. I ordered a duplex exhaust and realised that it will not be the best choice. The guys I ordered from were nice enough to let me change it given that they hand craft them for my car. I went for a single exhaust due to the limitation I have. For the time being, the car looks like this : As you can see, even if I custom cut the left side for an exhaust I have the risk of making my car look like really bad. The guys I ordered my parts were going to cut my valence and make sure everything would be perfect. I saw some pictures as to how it will look on a similar car to mine and decided to change the order. This does not look very good for me. Consequently, I will go for a single system. It is also more discreet and in case i do have a slight rear bumper issue, it will be an easy fix rather than have it custom cut again. I do not have any pictures yet of the new exhaust but I believe some specs will suffice for the time being. 76mm catback-system, right side 114mm round straight wide edge 200 cells HJS sport-catalyst / Euro 6 approved I get the exhaust installed at the beginning of November so I will continue my car log then. If you managed to get this far in the post, I thank you. Happy cruising!

    Supraking's Zetec S 125

hey folks, gunna re do this post as photobucket put a stick in the works so my candy blue zs got it a year and half ago with 12k on the clock, now getting close to 26k sailed through two mots and has only needed a set of front tyres when i got it i cleaned it to within an inch of its life, clay bar, full wheel off clean type of job. and have pretty much just been keeping on top of that over the time ive had it the only mods done to it so far are a colour coded ST diffuser and a debadge and that brings us up to today, did the vinyl number plate thingy, had to cheat a little bit, doing it myself meant the full width wasnt working. its a tad rough around the edges, but you have to get close to notice
