  1. Hi, I have a 2006 mk2 Ford Focus with 1.6 TDCI engine, and for years it appears to have been running cool in winter, taking a long time to get up to operating temperature. And sometimes even cooling off when in traffic. In spring/summer/autumn no issues, also not overheating. So I figured it was due to a faulty thermostat and replaced it with a new Ford part. And now it's running even cooler! It will barely get off the minimum mark, and if so only a slight bit when doing a hill climb. But then immediately drop back to the minimum again. When draining the coolant 4 litres came out, and I put 4 litres back in. (fresh Ford coolant) Also: heat out of the vents is not as hot as it used to be. At maximum heat, it's really quite modest. Does anyone have an idea what's going on here? Is there air trapped in the system? I thought I added the coolant and water quite slowly. Thanks, Vince

    Heater issues

Good afternoon all, I have an old W reg fiesta Zetec S 1.25 LX. My heating system is stuck on cold air. I have replaced the control valve under the bonnet and swapped out the control unit for one that definitely works and it still isn't working. From what I can see the Coolant isn't leaking, the level definitely hasn't dropped. I have looked through the internet / Google and every post relates to the parts mentioned above. Is there something else in the car that could cause the problem. How common are heater matrix blockages and how can I test for this. Any help genuinely appreciated. Apologies if this is not the correct place for this post. Cheers. Jason

    Blowers Always Cold!

Hi all. I've got a Titanium X with climate control and regardless of the setting i have the blowers on they're always freezing cold, they've been like it for about 10 days now and it couldn't be at a worse time of year! Could the problem be something as simple as a fuse or something worse? If anyone has got any ideas please let me know.
  4. I have a Ford FiestaLX 2003 petrol. It's getting pretty cold now and the last 2 days my car has not been starting properly. When I start the engine the revs go up and then normally they drop down to about 1, but at the moment they go all the way to 0 and the car doesn't start. the only way I can get the car moving is by using the accelerator to force more revs so it will move. however, when I stop the car at the junction right by my house, it doesn't stall, it just stops. I have no idea what the problem could be, a friend of mine suggested it could be the choke, but I don't know where the choke is on my car. any help would be much appreciated. Cheers, Louie

  6. Hi guys! very new to this but I'm trying to work out how to put a cold air intake on my fiesta? I have no idea where it would go (not much space under the bonnet) and also that that my air box as it stands is part of my engine cover. I have tried looking for a non air box engine cover but have come to no avail, so help would be much appreciated and if possible photos would be great! Thanks, Rhys 2005 Ford Fiesta zetec s

    Engine Running To Cold

Hello I have a good one for you guys I have a 2003 2.0 diesel mondeo. For a few months now the engine has been running far to cold. It runs fine but the needle never moves. I have replaced thermostats, water pump and engine temp sensor. I have used the scanner to run live data and the car is recording a running temp of 45 degrees. And the pipes feel Luke warm to the touch either side of the thermostats housing The temp needle does move after and half an hours driving at 90mph Does anyone have any ideas as to why the car is doing this and how it can be fixed? Very confused ford owner Thanks
  8. Hi Guys, With winter setting approaching the morning are getting much colder and this seems to be affecting my car at the start of my morning commute. The last few morning have been about 10 degrees. There are 2 stop signs before leaving my housing estate, at both of these the car seems to struggle to move after it has come to a complete stop almost like its about to stall but keeps moving slightly. Even with my foot to the floor. After that there's no issues and operates as normal. 10 degrees isn't nearly as cold as it can get so I was just wondering if there's any tips for driving in the winter? I had thought about getting an additive such as unlike a lot of other additives I would be able to see immediately if this is working or not. Other than that only think I can think of is to let the car idle for 5 mins before I start my journey
  9. Hey guys, I've been running a K&N 57i since around May 2016. It's currently in the configuration that K&N recommended on this model But I'm wanting to move it into the space on the right. Anyone had experience doing this? I'm wanting something like this: What parts, lengths etc do I need? Thanks, Jackk
  10. Hello, I have installed a milltek sports cat downpipe with a milltek exhaust system. Since installation, it rattles tremendously loudly inside the car but only when it is a cold start. I cannot replicate the issue unless i wait for the engine to cool down then start again. the rattling when inside sounds awful, but when is step outside the car the rattling is there but very faintly. Anyone else had this issue, or a similar one?
  11. I had a very recent clutch change done on my Mk1 1.6 Focus. Its done 95k. The gearbox has been a little notchy (1st & 2nd) and snaggy (lift clutch slightly to get in reverse) since I bought it at 72k. The clutch change seemed to remedy that... Except in the last few days. When starting the car from cold in the AM, I cannot get the car into gear. Not even with the clutch pedal all the way to the floor. When I try to force it into 1st, the car tries to move as if the clutch pedal is up. Reverse just grinds. Not good. I really have to FORCE it into gear for the first 2/3 miles. Once its warmed up its better.... I'm worried that I will end up forcing it just that little bit too hard, and destroying the gearbox one morning. Just in time for the summer. Ideal. Any advice? My MOT is due in a couple of weeks... At the same garage that did the clutch. Could an adjustment be made to fix this issue? Or would it be best to sell the car on ASAP?! I'd rather not get rid of the car. Other than this, its been a trooper for the past 24k. Cheers.
  12. I bought KA off a housemate. Its done just over 140k. He said it had over heating problems I let the engine run for 20 mins and noticed that the fan did not kick in I replaced the temperature/coolant sensor and now the fan works Then, I drove the car for a 13 miles on local, A roads and motorway. The temperature warning light came on I borrowed an ODBII diagnositics module (ELM 327) which plugs into the inside of the car on the passenger side Then installed a free OBDII compatible app (Torque Lite) on my android phone to monitor the temperature I made the following observations: 1. Fan kicks in at 100 c 2. Temperature warning light comes on at 120 c Once the temperature reached 120 c, I switched on blower/fan heater inside the car on maximum 3. The fan stopped at around 96 c At this point, I switched the engine off to see how quick it would cool down 4. After 30 mins, the temperature went down to 81 c I noticed that the blower blows out hot air even on cold setting. I have not noticed any leaks The coolant level has remained the same Possible fixes ? Flushing the coolant ? Replacing the heater control valve ? Replacing the thermostat / housing ? Any advice on what else I could check before spending any more money or in what order I should do things. Thanking you in advance, Kam
  13. So, I changed my oil/filter and air filter the weekend. All went well and the car was fine for 2 days. No sure if this problem is related but thought I would add just in case. Car is a Foucs MK2 2.0 TDCi Ghia No history of any other issues other wise. The next day the car started fine and off we went. Drove into town (approx 15m) Came back about 1hr later and the car started fine. Went to pull away but the revs would not exceed 1000rpm when the gas pedal was pushed. In fact the revs actually dropped slightly. Panic set it...after about 45secs-1m it went ok. No EML lights on, in fact no lights on the dash at all. Thought it may have been a little gremlin so drive home. All the way home car was fine, pulling on the turbo as normal, no smoke or stuttering. Got in to our drive and turned the engine off. Started it again and it did the same, no revs for about 1m. Then, as before went back to normal. Went out this morning and started it for the 1st time today. All was ok. Took it for a little drive with no issues. Turned it off and left it for about 30m. Started it again and the revs wont rise above 1000 rpm for about a minute. The only things I disconnect was 2 air pipes. Bit long winded but wanted to try and get all the info in one go. Any suggestions/assistance would greatly be appreciated Thank in advance
  14. I've got a Fiesta Zetec 2006 with 45k on the clock. All is fine other than one thing, in a morning when it's cold, when you turn the key, the car stutters when it starts. Don't get me wrong it's not a 'major' issue but I'd ideally like to know what the problem is. It runs fine it's just as if it chockes for a few seconds before starting in the cold. Thanks in advance

    Heater Stuck On Cold

Hi All, Focus 2002 1.6 Ghia saloon Petrol. The temperature control knob was stuck on cold, I physically could not move it across to hot. I thought it might be a broken/seized/kinked cable but when I took the cable off at the knob and at the drivers feet I could see that it works fine. With the cable removed (red arrow below) I can see/feel that the little black knob it attaches to (green arrow below) is stuck and will not move. Does anyone know what I can try next. I've read elsewhere that the "Blend door" could be stuck. Anyone know where this is or how I can get at it to perhaps manually move it to warm? (It's getting pretty cold out now!). Should I try and remove the white piece in the picture below? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  17. Hello everyone, I have a 2003 Ka with Duratec engine 1.3i For the last few days now the first start of the day is almost impossible and can take an hour or more - it turns over fine and 'almost' starts but normally takes as I say about an hour before it does, and then it runs like a bag of nails for 5 / 10 minutes. But then it runs spot on and starts first touch of the key all day - until the next day! I had a Ford breakdown mechanic out yesterday and he tested no end of things (no lights on dash by the way) and concluded that the coil pack was probably failing as he was "getting a spark but not when he expected". So I fitted a new coil pack yesterday and this morning it is exactly the same! ANY IDEAS????? Thanks!
  18. Hello, after improving my audio sistem with an amplifier + sub, I realised that my Focus 1.8 TDCI (2007) has a big current draw at inicial cold start up (winter, low temperatures). Checking voltages, I detected that my car has a big current draw the first two minutes....or three minutes (aprox) when I start it up now in winter (ver low temperatures). Just for curiosity, I would like to know what kind of System causes this current drain. I think it could be something about engine heating. Thank you. :D
  19. Hi everyone, Just a quickie - anyone else had this problem..... Start the car up from cold (even now when the weather is warm), pull away slowly and the car makes a whiney/whistling noise which is really annoying! The car is a 60 reg, only just done 30K miles so I'd be surprised if it was the exhaust system. The car gets used most days but only a short distance to the office so I guess it doesnt get a proper warm up. When the car is warm the noise doesnt occur. Just seeing if anyone else has had the same and what theyve done about it?! If its a normal Fiesta thing then I will just bare it. Cheers :-)
  20. Hi guys, I have a Fiesta 1.4 Zetec 2003 and it is slowly driving me crazy! When the car is cold the car does not start on first attempt, if i start it, it will die, i have to rev the car and hold the revs until the car warms up. If i release the accelerator it would stall again. I have to let go of the accelerator extremely slowly and hope it revs back up!! Sometimes even after successfully releasing the accelerator fully, if i tap the accelerator, revs drop and it stalls. And even once the car is warmed up and being driven for a while. I get to my car park and as soon as i shift in reverse and move, it would stall again -_- This is an extremely annoying problem when i'm in a rush for work! I have done a full service and replaced HT leads and coil pack recently. Any Ideas?? Also when i get the car running, releasing the clutch after shifting gears feels very clunky, especially when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. However if i rev excessively and let go of the clutch it would be somewhat smooth. Does this mean i need a new clutch? HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP!! :D THANKS!!
  21. Hi everyone New to all of this. so may be in wrong section so I apologise in advance. I have an issue with my Mk6 Fiesta Zetec s, Whereby when I do I cold start, the car will turn over start, then seconds later cut out. I then re-start again it turns over starts runs for like 5 seconds, then cuts out again then 3rd time lucky it works, which is good!. :D However on 2nd attempt the gauges/pins do not move at all!! (stay @0 although car is running) and the trip/mpg/avg speed are all reset back to 0??? Also my button on the end of the indicator stalk, to scroll thru menus is very temperamental any one else have this?? Cheers
  22. I have a fiesta 1.4 2003 zetec. When the engine and weather is cold, usually the morning. It is difficult to start the car. It starts but then immediately cuts out. The second time i would start it and rev slightly and wait until the engine gets warm (if i do not rev the engine would cut out again) After it is warm the engine is fine. This is extremely annoying when I'm in a rush to work! Any ideas why this is?

    Smokescreen At Start Up

I've owned my Focus for about 15 months now (not been serviced since June 2011...I know, I know) :o It pretty much always starts 1st time, even when its sub zero (it usually cranks 3 times & then fires). From a cold start though it runs rough for approx 15-20 seconds (erratic idling) & I get a nice blue/grey smokescreen. Once it starts to warm up it runs fine. It pulls OK & I can still get good MPG when I drive it sensibly. I'm just a little concerned by the smoke, oh & there's no major smoking once we're up to temp & I boot it. I'm going to start the service items shortly, other than the usual service items such as filters etc any other suggestions. Incidentally what would be considered an acceptable output from the battery with the engine off (dashboard trick). I ask because it looks like it might be the original. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Mondeo Starting Issues

Can someone please help me? I have a 2008 Mondeo 1.8 TDCi Zetec and am finding it increasingly difficult to start first thing. When I turn the key (after the glow plug light goes out) the engine almost turns over but doesn't start. WHen I turn the key on the second attempt it usually starts, and then for the rest of the day it does start first time. However, when it's cold and I try to start first thing in the morning it takes 3 or 4 attempts before it starts! The garage I bought it from had the car for several days and said they couldn't find anything wrong with it (although to be honest I'm not sure they know what they're doing!) I am worried that this may be something that could be worse if I don't get it looked at by another garage but it would help if I had an idea of what was causing this so I can tell the garage what to look for. Any ideas would be gratefully received! Thank you in advance.
