    Fob key repair/replacement

If you have a fob key problem ie: buttons not working properly / not at all try this 1: remove battery, then bend small side prong up a bit so it no longer sits at the side of the battery but on top of it when re-fitting, chances are it's no longer touching the battery.. 2: if step 1 hasn't worked buy a new fob replacement then carefully cut the rubber down the side of the transponder remove then fit into your new fob key ( use some blu tack / PVA glue to stop it moving and lessen the chance of breaking it ) and swap the circuit board and the key end..

    Focus MK1 Misfire

Hi All, Hoping for a bit of help before I give in and end up in a mechanics . I Have a Focus MK1 2L Zetec Petrol Blacktop, Until recently it has been performing fine with a service done recently. All of a sudden I felt a judder coming from the engine. I Ran a Diagnostic Scan and came back with a P0304 Code, Misfire Detected. The Scan also showed the following errors P0141 - o2 Sensor Heater Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 2 P1131 - Lack of Ho2S11 Switch - Sens Indicates Lean P0171 - System Too Lean Bank 1 P0136 - o2 Sensor Circuit Bank 1 Sensor 2 Now I'm by no means a mechanic but my understanding would be this is to do with the MAF Sensor and Lambda Sensor may have gone ? Would this the Cause of the misfire ? or not ? I have checked the spark plugs and HT Leads I have checked the Coil but not sure what Ohms Reading I should be getting back as ok. My Next Step would be to check the Injectors and pump again not sure what omhs readings I should be getting for that to be ok. The only other thing recently I have done was given the engine bay a bit of a clean and wiped some oil residue away from the rocker bay area so could it be due to that ? I Have Read the PCV Valve and the IAT Could also be the cause. I'm quite happy having a go at most things so any ideas or suggestions do feel free to mention. While I Had the scanner attached I pulled the latest Live Data Set too which may help diagnose the issue DTC_CNT - 1 FUELSYS1 - 0L-FAULT FUELSYS2 - N/A LOAD_PCT(%) - 31.4 ETC (F) - 163 SHRTFT1 (%) - 0.0 LONGFT1 (%) - 0.0 RPM (/MIN) - 887 VSS - (MPH) - 0 SPARKADV ( ' ) - 22 IAT (F') - -40 MAF (LB/MIN) 0.077 TP (%) - 16.1 O2SLOC B1S12--B2S---- O2B1S1 (V) - 0.035 SHRTFTB1S1 (%) - 0.0 O2B1S2 (V) 0.000 OBDSUP - EOBD MIL_DIST (MILE) - 0 Any and all suggestions greatly appreciated many thanks jamie
  3. Hi there the factory fitted 6 cd autochanger stereo in my st170 has died. Before I go down the fiddly single din fitting route of a new stereo I've seen a few old foci being broken online. The st170 is obviously quite rare but there are lots of ghia about. What stereos were fitted in the mk1 ghia and would they be a simple click out click in solution does anyone know? Thanks in advance.
  4. Hi all, I have a 2003 1.8 TDCI Focus hatchback. I was at a scrapyard recently a found a mk1 Focus ST with near mint leather seats, so I had to have them to replace the grey cloth ones in mine. I'm pretty sure these leather seats have a heating element in them. After replacing them, the airbag light is now on in the dash. Doing some research this looks like a common problem and it's hardly surprising as the seat connector is now not hooked up. The old seats didn't have airbags in the sides, so am I right in thinking the connector is for a sensor in the seat? I didn't actually test it but the connector from the floor and the one in the new seats look different. I assumed they wouldn't fit so I didn't try at the time. What are my options here? Does the airbag light mean the SRS components in the rest of the vehicle are affected? Will I need to get an auto-electrician to wire something across the loom to trick the car into thinking everything's OK? Or can I still hook the two connectors together somehow? I'm not really sure how it all works. I will try and take some photos soon to show the connectors on the seat and from the car floor. Thanks for reading. Edit: Had a quick glance and it looks like the new seats have the square loom whilst the one coming from the car is the rectangular one. If this is correct, how does this affect what I need to do?
  5. OK, so I have a rather dull Focus Mk1, I find the performance OK, but it's not going to set my world on fire. But it's the brakes that I find really disappointing, I know it's a heavy car (I'm used to older warm to hot hatches, I had a couple of Astra GTE's back in the day*), and the stoppers don't exactly inspire confidence. There's nothing wrong with them, MOT man said they're perfectly fine, I just want a little more from my middle pedal. So here's my question... As Ford made the caliper carrier integral with the hub casting, I can't just throw on bigger discs with calipers to suit, so what can I do to fit larger diameter discs on a very, very tight budget? ST170 conversion looks easy, but I guess fairly expensive? Volvo V50 is based on the focus, is there a good swap to be had from there? Mondeo Mk1, 2 & 3 are as cheap as chips, is there a good swap to be had from any of them? Is there anything else I should consider? *Please don't hate me!

    St170 Bhp? Non-Standard

Hi all, I was wondering what BHP my ST170 is likely to be putting out... Its got a Direnza full exhaust system K&N Panel filter That's it at the min. I am considering a fan assisted cold air intake to the underside of the air box. Would you recommend a 'T-pipe' and split the air feed via the air defector and a downpipe to a cold air intake? I just worry this will inhibit airflow. Cheers

    Mk1.5 Stalling After New Icv?

Hello chaps, Got a problem that I can't get my head around - my 04 1.6 petrol has been hunting for idle a little bit and idles a bit low (worse with electrics being used and worst when engine is warm) which has been seen in countless forum posts and threads. So naturally I assumed this was the idle control valve, which I replaced. After fitting and letting it idle for a bit, all seemed well but upon driving the car, it now stalls whenever you try and roll into 1st gear or let the revs drop to idle for any reason. I thought it may have been a faulty part - was a cheap eBay job after all so I got a replacement and fitted that one, same deal. Also when you first start it up with the new valve, the engine is seriously lugging until you give it some gas. I've put the old one back on for now - anyone can shed any light on this? The symptoms with the new valve seem to be like what happens when the gearbox speed sensor is faulty, but why is it only doing it with the new part? (Also I've had no speedo problems) Finally, I have checked all the vacuum pipes and intake Mani for leaks but there appear to be none. Cheers guys

  13. Hi guys. I'm fitting a sub to my 2001 plate (pre facelift) focus and I'm at that stage of deciding how to run the power cables. It seems the two ways I could go is running the cable in the same hole the main loom takes but I can't see how to get to that, or drill a hole in the wheel arch. I am wondering if there is a third way- possibly run the cable off of a spare space in the fuse box behind the glove box. Is this a nutty idea? Which rout would you say was the best? Rob
  14. Hello everyone I'm new to the forum, I joined to see about getting some information. I have a 1.6 Petrol Mk1 Focus with a Zetec SE engine and I would like to fit an oil catch can but I have no idea where to connect it? I think it goes after my PCV then connects onto the pipes that go back in the engine ? I'm really confused with this as I think I also have a Breather filter somewhere as well. I originall thought it would connect in between this pipe: Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers
