  1. Hello, Mk 7 Fiesta Zetac. I'm having great difficulty refulling with petrol. I insert the nozzle according to the handbook and squeeze the handle but after a tiny amount of fuel enters it starts to splash out and then something clicks off and there is no flow. Any further squeezing results in more spillage. I'm taking the car to the Ford garage next week for them to look at this. I've seen the various threads about getting the nozzle just so, and I've had no problem refulling this car for six years.. My question: As a temporary fix, does anyone know if it is possible to use the funnel that came with the car at the petrol pumps, or it is only for use with a can of fuel? Would filling it up from the pump via this funnell overide or by-pass whatever mayn be causing the refuilling issue? Tony

    How many miles?

Hi everyone, I'm getting a little more used to my SteetKa, I have had it a week now. The petrol light came on earlier, so I suddenly wondered... does anyone know roughly how many miles are left in the tank before the car totally runs out of petrol? I can't seem to find much info online so I thought I would ask the forum. Thank you.
  3. Ive got a big problem, ive got a fiesta with some mods from a guy, the post cat or the downstream oxygen sensor is missing and i cant find the plug for it under the bonnet. the car gets 180 miles per 40L of fuel, and emissions are not pass worthy. but i cant seem to find a second sensor connection anywhere i look. could someone tel me if this is normal or must there me a secondary lambda? ive been searching forever now and cant find similar issues. im struggling to find out whether i need to buy and rewire a sensor to the ECU or is the connection hidden somewhere.

    Smoking

My 2014, 40k 1.5 tdci is smoking badly. Dip the throttle quickly clouds of black smoke. Oil is changed regularly, injector cleaner added, changed from Morrisons to BP diesel. Taken for long ride in low gear to heat up particulate filter. It just about scraped through last MOT. Goes well fuel economy aroung 60mpg Is there a common fault with this engine any advice will be welcome.
  5. Hey, I've got a 15plate 1.0 Ecoboost Focus Zetec and I have just had the cat converter changed but now the fuel and temp gague are incorrect. When the engine is off they are still raised up and when I'm driving the temp goes to 3/4.

    mk3 1.1 cfi

Can the in tank fuel pump on my MK3 be replaced by newer model type Some foreign suppliers say it can while UK suppliers say no, but want lot more £ for a MK3 one. Thanks
  7. Here is a simple guide on how to replace the diesel fuel filter on a mk3 Mondeo ST 2.2 TDCI without any starting problems! I believe the 2.0 TDCI Mondeo MK3 uses the same filter as does the 1.8 TDCI focus MK1 You will need: 8mm and 13mm sockets (optional) Ratchet (optional) Fuel filter - Bosch 0 450 906 508 my old Bosch filter has part number 1 457 434 442 and is slightly different. A large syringe. I used a 60ml syringe. Fresh diesel Rags This can be done with only a few rags and a syringe or if you wish to have extra room to work you will need an 8mm socket and a 13mm (deep preferably) socket and ratchet. In my guide I have removed the metal brace for clarity and to show how its done if you so wish to do it this way. So you will need a new fuel filter, I bought a Bosch filter as they make the original and at less than half the Ford price it's a no brainer. A Bosch filter can be had for around £20 including postage. I change my fuel filter every 12-18 months, covering approx 20k miles a year. Lets have a look at the filter: (note the arrows and port sizes) Next you will need to open the bonnet and look at the rear of the engine on the left hand side, you should see the filter hiding down there. Remove the 7 nuts/bolts holding the metal brace and remove it completely (5x 13mm head nuts and bolts, 2x 8mm bolts) And you should be left with this For the next stage it is advisable to cover the alternator with some rags as there will be some spillage and it WILL drop onto the alternator. The clips holding the fuel pipes onto the filter now need to be released, simply push the 2 locking clips using 2 fingers (no need for any tools - they are very simply to release) and push the clip forward. once its unlocked pull the clip out as far as it will come. Do this for all 3 pipes then pull the pipes off and move them slightly so they are not in the way of the filter coming out, you will have some diesel leaking out now. Now that the pipes are disconnected, pull the filter upwards, noting that the filter is housed in a metal bracket which slides onto 3 plastic clips. You might find the filter comes out without the metal housing, even better if it does. You should be left with this: (I have started removing the filter from the metal housing) Remove the old filter from the bracket and discard of it safely - mind it is full of fuel. Now have your missus stand holding the filter while you fill/prime it with diesel. Remember to fill it on the inlet port as you don't want any dirt getting to the injectors! Once the filter is full (took about 400ml IIRC) you might see the level drop down again - don't worry about this yet, its just the paper element soaking in the diesel. Once the filter is full, refit it to the metal bracket and then slide the assembly back into the car making sure it catches all 3 clips - this can be tricky. Once its back in and secure, you can top up with diesel if required and fit all 3 pipes again - noting that the smaller port goes to the front. the pipes simply slide back on and when fully home just push the clip back in to lock it. Remove your rags from the alternator and clean up any mess. Refit the metal brace then stand back and look at your shiny new filter: Now its time to start the car, and if you have followed this guide correctly it WILL start first time and continue running no problem. Leave the car idling for a minute to check for leaks, test drive after this if you so desire. Stick the tools back in the shed, wash the hands and grab a beer! :) Well done you have just changed your fuel filter - should take around 10-15 minutes. Here is a pic of the old filter part number: If you are changing the fuel filter on your car, you do so at your own risk. I take no responsibility for any damage caused and you should always fully understand the risks of whats involved before you start.
  8. Hi I have a focus 1.8tdci on an 03 plate with 89000 miles. I have a problem which is really baffling. Car cuts out and will not restart. When this happens the fuel filter is half empty. Incidentally no stored faults on diagnostics. I have removed the fuel tank and cleaned it out including the swill chamber, put air line on steel pipe to filter and renewed plastic pipe to filter. Fitted a second new fuel filter on the off chance the first was faulty and put in brand new fuel. The same thing is happening again car starts, will run for a little while, then cuts out, so if I remove the pipes and top up filter it will start up. Hs anyone any ideas what the problem could be? Many thanks
  9. Hi, new to the forum. My wife recently purchased a Fiesta 1.0 eco boost titanium model. The expected range of a full tank is according to the ford website around 600 miles, however the range displayed on our car is roughly 275 on a full tank and that is what we are getting before we have to fill up again It is mainly used for local driving, she drives carefully and even uses the stop start function. The full tank still costs the same amount of around £50, so it's not the tank size. Mileage on 4/1/2015 was 27441 when I filled up - range States 271 miles to 0 mileage on 7/1/2015 was 27701 before I filled up - range States 273 to 0 So we only got 260 miles between fill ups. Does anyone have any ideas .

    Has anyone had this happen?

I've just been to a local Jet station (and at £1.20 a litre I doubt I'll be going back but needs must) I put in £20 and hit it exactly so I put the pump back and went to pay, not really taking notice of the price gauge after letting go of the trigger. Lady at the till asks for £20.01. I've had this a few times before in different places but not for a while. I brought it up and she sent someone who must have been called Malcolm (if you watch Lee Evans you'll know what I mean) to go and 'check' the pump. Malcolm goes out to my pump, takes a glance at the readout and returns to the shop saying 'yep, 20.01'. Thanks Malcolm, couldn't have done that without you... Anyway, what gives?
  11. Recently had battery issues ending up putting a new battery in. The car sat without a battery for about 24 hours. Now the fuel gauge reads a quarter which is about right but the low fuel level indicator has illuminated even though I know there is fuel in the tank. Any ideas? ford fiesta 2009 1.6 diesel
  12. Hi all, A few days ago when I was leaving work I could smell fuel when I started up the engine and drove off. I didn't think anything of it since I had the same thing happen with my old Vauxhall Corsa (Don't judge! It was a first car:P). Anyways, a friend at work also said that it was running a bit rich and that I should get it retuned. If they are right, does anyone recommend anywhere I could get this done in Romford? Thanks in advance.

    XR3i HELP!

I am not directly a Ford owner although my wife does have a Fiesta but I do have a Ford Escort XR3i engine in my 1992 Morgan 4/4. Recently the fuel system has developed an intermittent serious leak, it is leaking from a fitting that looks like a plastic pushfit plumbing fitting and as soon as the ignition is turned on fuel sprays out. Can anyone tell what is the function of this "elbow" or is it simply a connector for the two parts of the fuel delivery pipe? My local Morgan dealer cannot identify the part, probably because they don't know what it is, the problem being that this engine was only used by Morgan for part of 1992 and therefore there are not many of them about in Morgans. Any help that anyone can give on what it is, what it does and where can we get a replacement would be most welcome. Attached are a couple of photos showing the location in the Morgan engine bay.

    Focus drinks petrol

I bought a 2005 1.6 petrol Ghia Auto last August. It had 64000mls with full service history. I'm very happy apart from the mpg. It drinks petrol. I drive like a nun and i still only get about 30mpg in the country, if i start driving fast i actually think i can see the dial moving, if i drive at about 70mph im getting 20mpg. I did a bit of research and got the O2 sensors changed (£80 for each +time=£240 unbelievable) didnt make any difference. Any ideas? Is 30 to 35mpg normal for this car? I'm getting about 140mls per tank. Any info appreciated

    Cruise Control and mpg

I'm quite lazy so even on twisty A Roads I like to use CC the engine revs hard from time to time when I come to inclines to maintain the speed Is it better for fuel economy to not use CC in above situation and only use it on Motorways? Thanks
  18. Hi Im new to this and dont really know about cars that why i have signed up to try and solve this problem. Yestarday i filled up my tank and as the evening went on my car started to lose power in gears 4 5 6 and also pulling very slow in the other gear, it felt like someone had just taken the turbo out, i have rang ford and was told i need a diagostics test but read other forum with people staying that ford saying there was no problem. My car wont go over 65mph and wont go over 3rpm even if i have my foot right down. There is no warning light etc i really dont! I read another forum before saying his focus went in to limp mode after 2 days of hot weather and the last 2 days it has been 16+ here which is hot for the area. Also i have seen articles on the shell station saying the fuel is rubbish so thinking it could be a fuel fliter. Please can anyone expand my knowledge on what i already know. Cheers
  19. Info on the problem. - 2008 Ford Focus 1.6 Style - Auto - 30,000 Miles Short version of what’s wrong with the car and important notes: - Mostly heat related starting problem - The car drives perfectly - There is no injector pulse when fault is occurring, the most important info here is wiggling the wiring harness WILL get the car to start when the car is NOT hot, however when the engine has warmed to normal operating temp wiggling wires will not have any affect which I’m guessing is due to thermal expansion. - ECU has been swapped out with another new one and problem persisted. - Disconnecting the ECT sensor will get the car to start almost 99% reliably. - ECT sensor has been replaced. - Crank sensor has been replaced. - No fault codes ever registered. I have been trying to trace the problem through the wiring harness but it’s proven to be too difficult. The current process I’m using to find the problem is to investigate all sensors and their circuits that have anything to do with fuel injection, the only problem is that I do not have a large knowledge base when it comes to cars. I am wondering if you guys can help me and please be so kind to tell me what sensors you know to affect fuel injection and if you’ve ever heard of such a problem before or know of anything that could help. I have a scanning tool and have been inspecting how certain sensors work and everything seems to be fine (voltages .etc) to my knowledge which again isn’t vast. I have had a friend bridge the whole ECT sensor circuit to eliminate it and sure enough the problem is not regarding the ECT circuit. I’m getting close to having to give up a perfectly good car all because of some stupid wiring problem. Thank you for any help, it is much appreciated.
  20. Hey gang, So I want to replace the rocker cover gasket on my MK2 Focus 1.6 TDCI, as well as checking out the oil separator for leaks and replacing injector seals. According to Haynes (and a lot of other sources) the union pipes connected to the fuel injectors MUST be replaced once removed. These seem to be rather expensive, and although I've researched the reasons why they should only be used once, it's gonna be looking pretty expensive for the "simple" (and cheap) work I'm attempting. So, question, is it too much of a risk to re-use the pipes? Is there a way to remove the oil separator for inspection without dismantling the entire manifold including injectors? I hope someone can help, cheers, Sam
  21. few months ago i changed my fuel filter on my 1.6 tdci focus 09. (econetic), spilt a bit of fuel and then thought i had an odd smell in the cabin when using the air system. kept an eye on that, and that seems all fine theres no sign of a leak and hoses are attached perfectly. ive had this smell a while now and am running out of ideas. today i changed the oil, and i had to remove the air inlet hose to the engine to access the fuel filter, this is attached to the turbo and the air filter housing, and i noticed when i removed it, there was liquid inside it. and it smelt of this smell that ive been getting inside the car when the air is on, you can also smell this odour standing in front of the engine when its running. the odd thing, is this smell only comes into the cabin, when the air is from the outside. when i have the air to be recirculated, the smell doesnt came in. any ideas? ive just read that a possible sign of an EGR being stuck open is a "slight or strong smell of fuel"
  22. Hi guys, I discovered that the previous owner of my Ranger had broken and glued one of the connectors on the fuel return line. Needless to say it broke and spewed diesel all over the engine and I had to get towed to a garage. Anyway, the replacement (the whole return line with all four connectors and the line back to the fuel filter/pump) was ordered and fitted. Now I am camping deep in the desert in Namibia and when I lifted the hood this morning to check that everything was okay I discovered fuel leaking in the same area. I've wiped down the whole area but can't see anything obvious. Also it looks like the guy who fitted the new line has placed it behind the injectors as opposed to the pic where the line is in front of the injectors. Would this make a difference? How do I unclip the connectors to check? If I do this will it cause more problems like letting air into the line? I'm pretty desperate but luckily have access to patchy wifi at a bar up the road. I would really appreciate any suggestions you guys might have. Cheers.
  23. I changed the fuel filter about a week ago, but after i primed the fuel filter, i had a spillage of diesel. im not entirely sure but i think i can smell something odd when the heating is on in the car, although the odd smell only begins to appear when the air is hot, when i run it after getting in i dont notice anything until the cabin is warm, theres no funny smell when its cold. my wife seems to think theres nothing different to before, she says it smells like it always has, even though ive asked her to give it a good sniff right infront of the air vents, as its not an overly strong smell, and i did my best to wipe up everything i could see when i had the spillage. so is it possible that some of the fuel i spilt could be in the air system somehow? and can i get rid of it? im not even sure its diesel i can smell myself. If its any help. the car is an 09 ford focus and the fuel filter is located just to the right of the engine, just under the fresh air intake

    Fuel light and trip cpu

Had my focus a week no dramas with the way it's working just running low today, trio cpu showing 43 miles left and the light on the dash, filled up but the light remains on and the trip cpu has gone down not up, the tank needle has moved to quarter tank. Any way to reset this? Car is an 05 focus zetec, 1.6 petrol***

Hi I was wondering if anyone knows how to remove the cyclinder from the barrel of a Ford Fiesta Zetec Mk6.5 fuel cap lock? I recently noticed that the fuel cap lock is sticking every time I try to either lock or unlock the fuel cap. So I managed to remove it and take off the silver clip and black plastic (please see pictures). Now I am stuck on how to remove the barrel/cyclinder. My aim for now is to simply to disassemble, clean, re-lubricate and then reassemble the lock. If this fails, I will then look at buying a genuine ford cyclinder lock repair kit from maybe Ford Parts UK which I believe is about £40 to £50. Regards Pally
