  1. Hi everyone, So I've had my Fiesta for just over 6 months now. The problem I'm having is that when I'm reversing, the car makes a groaning or moaning noise, as if it's struggling. Seems to have got progressively worse over the past week. Also, the difference between in reverse and out is so minute I end up grinding half the time! Has anyone else experienced this with their Fiesta? Thanks!

    I want to put a new gear knob on however whenever I twist the old one it does not detach and takes the whole of the underneath part with it. How do I take it off?

    I never usually do this but I've never really had a car worth posting about before. I've recently become the proud owner of a 1.6 TDCI Ti Nav in Panther Black and I love it! I still want to bugger about with it and I want to put together a list of mods I want to do and stuff I want to buy (more for keeping track myself than anything else) and I'd appreciate any opinions, recommendations and links people may have. Firstly, there are some givens. Mine has the auto mirror and rain sensors but the upper section of the cover is missing. Didn't spot this before buying due to the way I was sat but I have to say it's niggling! If anyone has the part number I'd appreciate it! I also want to get some decent mats, preferably rubber but obviously fitted for the studs in the floor. Also a boot liner (hatchback). I'll be replacing as many bulbs as possible with LEDs, though I have read a lot of reliability issues with some sidelights. After those, the rest are in the 'maybe' pile I quite like the idea of wind deflectors but don't want the Halfords-Nailed-On look. Opinions? Illuminated gear knob would be nice (working on that one), maybe even the scuff plates... Bonnet lifters Reverse camera Front parking sensors (can be retrofit?) Some nice looking pedal covers DRLs. Preferably oem but price would probably mean 'fang' style Colour changing ambients. Following another thread I think this is possible Front window tint 18" alloys to replace my 16's Front bumper lip. Remap. New front and rear badges ( rear is going white round the edge and front has one hell of a stone chip - I read somewhere dealers replace these for free on less than 10 year old cars?) topped with gel coats. LED reflectors. I've seen this done with twin intensities for side and brake lights. Dunno how much of this will ever get done but it's nice to have a list! I also have a couple of questions if anyone can answer: Can the SYNC voice control be programmed to activate my phone directly? Or can the command choices for SYNC 1 be improved with a software update? Is there a way to re-calibrate the trip computer? My instant mpg is nearly always 99.9 when cruising at any speed and only drops when accelerating hard. £20 of fuel apparently buys me 700+ miles... What is the button nearest the driver for below the air con controls? I'll put up a pic if needed but the one I mean is next to the disable start/stop button in the same bank as the front and rear window heaters. It's blank in mine but I'd be interested to know if I can put whatever it is in! Heated seat maybe?
  4. Hey everyone, Our reverse lights are not working, so we took our van into a mechanics to have a look at it. They told us that the bulbs and switch are fine, but we seem to be missing something in the gearbox to actually press the switch when the van is put into reverse. If they put their finger in they can press the switch and the reverse lights come on, but they do not get pressed when the van is put into reverse. Does anyone have any idea what could be missing? They said that they could not find the part on the website. We have a 2006 swb transit van. Thanks! Joe
  5. Finding so many problems with my 2009 fiesta zetec S The latest issue is the gearstick squeaks when going into 2nd, 4th and reverse... I lifted the gear surround to oil the joint and found the noise to be coming from the piston thingy, I don't know what it's for but when you put the gearstick into 2nd, 4th and reverse the piston extends, and this is causing the squeak, I squirted some 3in1 around but still squeaking. Do I need to replace it? What's it for?

April this year i purchased a 2011 Focus Titanium 1.6TI-VCT MK3 with 63090m, its now on 68500+m, absolutely wonderful thing to drive, now a couple weeks back on the way home from work at 6:30am it was fairly chilly but not cold. Coming to a red light ive pulling out in 3rd in to N, its gone amber and i couldn't get into the 1st, i repeatedly tried to get it in gear and with some serious force 3rd attempt it went in but it required really heavy force to do so. going down a hill i decided to test this again, ive pulled it out of 4th and tried to get into 1st (clutch is still depressed, break was in use) and it wouldn't go in smoothly unless i selected gears like a sequential gearbox, so i went down into 3rd, it was stiff, then 2nd about the same and then 1st seemed way smoother then going from 3rd or 4th to 1st when this happens which actually yesterday (27-08-17) on the way to work at 5am it happened again 1st is the worst, then 2nd is stiff and 3rd is worse than 2nd and not as bad as 1st , 4th not so much and then 5th slides in lovely, sliding out of gears to N seems to be normal, its going from N to 1st or passing through N as changing gears seems to be the issue when the car is off the gears slide as they should do when i first Purchased the car its only when the car is running now here is another annoying bit, i thought id need a transmission fluid change or could be the master or slave cylinders (which i know im covered under the warranty for) i ring them up and they recommend i take it to a garage that they deal with frequently, a Halfords Autocentre, right okay i get it booked in for 25th, drop car off around 1:30 (and at this time im only 25, i passed my test in january my knowledge of cars isnt that great and this is my 2nd car) i explain my issues to lad at desk as above in great detail as i can and he says ''yeah sounds to me like transmission, when oil is cold it contracts and when the engine is warming it up it expands so it could just need a top up, (i figured he might be right as when the car gets going and warms up the problem seems to dissapear) says what happens is i pay for diagnosis and they check for problems (i aint ***** stupid, surely if i explain my problem, for example i have a flat Tyre, they will repair or replace it and not pay for a diagnosis???) so i kinda felt like i had no choice, so i ask will it be done by 5pm? lad says we only need a couple of hours, so i drop keys and disappear, 5pm comes no phone call and i ring them and ask whats going on and get told the mechanic has been on the car for a while and hasn't been able to find a cause to my problem, but hopefully he be able to in the next 30 mins and id get a call, it was 5:55pm i noticed i hadn't gotten anything back and ring again, and i get told the mechanic cant find the cause, they are trying to get hold of the warranty to authorise work on the car which is alot of time and money (money i dont have, time im not fussed about) he says they think is something to do with H selector? have no idea what that is, i request to pick up the car but cant pick it up until the morning the next day, my suspicions is they had that planned as i didn't even get a phone call back to get updated about the ''diagnosis'' so morning comes and i pick up the car, the mechanics says they've had another look that morning and cant find the cause, he confirms its stiff in the gears i have mentioned, he has confirm Clutch good for 100,000m at least, then he said as they aint equipped, i would have to take it to a specialist to open it up and see what the cause is, on the plus side i didn't get charged this at all im wondering has anyone experienced the same problem with the Focus and if so what was the cause? and is there anything i can do do check myself without voiding my warranty if not ill leave it to the professionals
  8. Hi, My gear knob and gaiter are both worn in my Ford Focus 2009 MK II Hatchback 1.8 TDCi and I am wanting to change them. I have been looking online and the one I like seems to not fit my car, or so the compatibility checker says. I currently have http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/ford_focus_gear_lever_knob_and_gaiter_2008-2011_f_1548262.htm part number 1548262 however I would like to have something like http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Black-5-Speed-Gear-Shift-Knob-Stick-Lever-Gaiter-Boot-Cover-For-Ford-Focus-/152054140712?fits=Car+Make%3AFord|Model%3AFocus&epid=1594595900&hash=item2367220f28:g:0KQAAOSwLmVXD3y4 (I know it's an aftermarket one so I'm not too sure). The compatibility checker says that it would not fit in my car. Does anyone know any different or have any recommendations for me? I think a gear shifter like that would look a lot nicer as it matched with the centre console too. Any help would be great.
  9. Hey people I am new here. I bought a 2014 Ford Fiesta 1.25 82 PS from a reputable garage (Bristol Street) and have had it almost 3 months it has 15K miles on the clock and has been problem free until yesterday when I heard a pop could not tell if it was from the engine or tyres but on checking the tyres they were fine, so decided to continue on my journey home but it was slow going I could not get the car above 60mph on the motorway and I also got my dad to check the tyres and he said they were fine. It is still under warrant until the 23/05/2017. Any idea what this could be? My first thoughts were the syncro or the spark plugs but a car bought from a reputable dealer like Bristol Street Motors. I dunno either way I am worried.
  10. I need some help figuring out what is cousing the following probem on my mk2 petrol focus: Sometimes when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, the shifter stucks half way. It doesnt let me put it in the 2nd gear, only at second or third try. No grindig noise can be heard. Any of you encountered this problem? The clutch is in good condition. The car has only 130.000 km. I unmounted the gearshift cover and greased the ables that can be seen there. The interesting is that it only has this problem occasionally, not every time when I shift to 2nd. Somebody told me the cables underneath the car need adjusted. Any advice? Thanx!

    Mechanical issue (rattle)

    Hello, I'm new to driving (passed in December) and I'm not very mechanical savy. I bought a 56 fiesta on 31st December and it's been running fine since then until recently. The issues I'm having are as follows. I hear a springy noise when dropping the clutch There is a knocking/rattle noise when the clutch is down When in first gear at low revs the car vibrates moderately when raising the clutch When in reverse the car vibrates very badly and feels like the wheels are spinning/struggling A clear liquid seems to drop from the backbox (no odour) I've flushed the coolant, topped up the oil, checked all the liquid i can see and they're all fine. It's about to hit 70k miles Someone suggested clutch maybe on the way out but better to get fellow ford lovers opinions. Thanks for any reply.

Hey guys, I have recently picked up my 2005 Focus Estate and the gear gator is damaged, from what I can see there is some sort of plastic clip that goes around the base of the leather sleeve and this then clips the sleeve into the plastic housing on the base. The previous owner appears to have tried to repair this with staples! This is the bit im struggling with, I can find loads of ebay sellers who are selling just the leather sleeve part, but what I need is the leather sleeve with the fittings that I can then clip into place on the base. Anyone have any ideas where I can get these?? Cheers, Ell.
  13. Hey there! My parents have a 2011 Ford Focus automatic, that has developed a fault where it shudders in 2nd gear and sometimes struggles to go into reverse. It has only developed over the past couple of weeks. The car has low mileage (Only around 15,000). Has anyone heard of this or can help?
  14. Hi, I've recently purchased a second hand Ford Focus (2013 reg). Occasionally, it makes a grinding sound when changing from 2nd to 3rd gear. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Should I get it checked before the warranty expires! Any ideas much appreciated!
  15. Good evening ford owners, I'm new to the forums so hope I've posted In the correct place. Just need a little help with two problems which could possibly be a 3rd problem if you guys read, but here goes. My Ford Focus zetec tdci 1.8 5door has recently had its clutch changed as well as seal on the gear box because I had a gear box leak, this was sorted but I've noticed, 1)when the car ignition is switched off the car makes a screeching noise coming from the clutch area and 2) my 4th and reverse gear is struggling to engage, it eventually goes in after a couple of gentle tries, can anyone help me wit my problem here? And problem number two is, when setting off my car makes a whistling noise, this whistling noise is almost that of a humans very strange, anyone have any ideas on this? thank you Joe Ford Focus zetec tdci 1.8
  16. Hi I'm new hear, hopefully someone can help. My 1.6 Y reg has intermittent gear change problem. Mostly when temp is half way (after warmed up), but occasionally straight from old. It just won't go into gear. It has apparently had a new clutch and gearbox. Have bled clutch fluid in case of air bubbles, which hasn't improved it. It can happen any time, just won't go into any gear, I've even tried pumping the clutch. And very rarely I'll have the clutch fully down and u can hear it's going to cut out as if u've lifted the clutch too quick.
  17. Just finished a day of troubleshooting and no luck. My 2008 Ford Focus has a very small bulb that illuminates the gear selection panel from inside the center console. The bulb and area wiring are all intact, upon testing and providing alternate power I can fire up the bulb, but am getting no power to the bulb from chassis. All fuses have been checked and seem to be in working order, not sure where to go next, bought Haynes and Chilton manuals but wiring diagrams don't match the car at all (manuals seem to cover 2000-2007....& 2007-11 as a general guide). Looking for help and suggestions, thank you.
  18. Hi all, I have a Ford Fiesta 2003 1.4 Durashift Automatic, the car has issues with 3rd gear. When driving the car will shift into 3rd gear but there will be no bite, almost like the car is in neutral. As you are driving the car will shift into 3rd but then you end up reving to the red line and there is no power. If you let off the gas and let the revs goes down the car will shift into 3rd gear and continue as normal. The issue only happens occasionally. Can anybody offer any advise on how to resolve this issue? Thanks!

    Fiesta St180 Gear Gaiter

    What up boiz, I've been looking at new gear gaiters for the fiesta st180 and the best/only option seems to be from redlinegoods, but they are an american company and the american fiesta ST doesn't have the silver trim around the gaiter and the base is a different shape than the the UK version. Dosent really look like it will be wide enough but has anyone tried one of these gaiters on a UK Fiesta?
  20. I've had my 56 Fiesta for about two weeks or so now (my first car), I love it! Only trouble is sometimes when I attempt to select the reverse gear, from first the car doesn't move. Reverse is definitely engaged as I can see the reverse light in my rear view, but as I release the clutch and give a little gas, there is no movement, instead it revs as if its still in neutral. Has anyone else experienced this or know of the cause? Thanks :)
  21. Hi so I have this problem that most garages seem to not actually have heard of. The clutch goes hard when not being used. If I drive around town for a while where I am constantly changing gear, i.e using the clutch, it works great. If i spend half hour or an hour on the motorway in one gear, i.e not using it, the clutch pedal goes stiff when i finally do. It's not impossible to depress but harder than it should be, as soon as I depress it a few times to change gear, it recovers. I was preparing to put a new clutch in towards the end of the year anyway as the pedal seems high but i need an opinion on the fault. Also it intermittently doesn't go into 1st gear! Only intermittently though, i have to retry and usually 2nd or 3rd time it slides into gear as it should. Same thing happens in reverse gear (which is the 1st gear but backwards i believe). It's a 2003 1.6 Zetec petrol and these are the only niggles on an otherwise fantastic car, like a Bentley compared to my old Corsa! Thanks in advance. One love

Hi all, So a little back story to the problem - I took my car out last night and whilst meaning to leave it in reverse gear while parked, I accidentally put it into forth, which caused the car to shunt forward with a bit of a loud grunt. Afterwards I drove the car back to my place (using all the gears), perfectly fine as if the incident before hadn't happened. This morning whilst getting into my car for work, I could happily put the car into first and second (luckily I needed reverse first), and the gear stick will not move to the right at all or select any other gear. The car will actually move as normal on the first and second gear but being unable to change from these is a massive issue. I've seen some similar posts and mentions of using WD40 on parts, but I am completely useless when it comes to cars. Any suggestions as to what it might be? Thanks very for any help Dan
  23. Hi, Car started to develop an intermitten problem, after starting it is stuck in park. The button on the gear shift changer will not depress to allow change of gear. Brake lights are all working fine, and it is completely intermitten. I also noticed that is reving very high in first before changing up to second, all other gears are function correctly. I put the car into a garage, they believe the fault is the solenoid at the base of the gear shift changer (see picture) however they are not able to identify it to order a replacement. If you manually press the solenoid the gear shift changer works fine. Can anyone assist in what this solenoid is called, or some kind of identification. Also if anyone has any other ideas what the fault might be I'd be happy to go play around with the car. thanks Richard
  24. a few weeks back in traffic the gear stick went floppy, lifting the gaiter up showed the problem to be a rod that had fallen off a ball shaped joint and pushing it back on solved the problem. It has now happened twice more and i'm becoming worried at the frequency of it happening, I have circled in the attached picture the rod that falls off the ball - can i buy a new replacement rod or replace the rubber bit to stop it slipping off anymore? Is it a common fault or has anyone else experienced this / found a fix? I'm not entirely sure what the rod is called so I wouldn't know what i'm looking for. All ideas and suggestions very welcome - I have no idea unfortunately! Tess
