  1. Hello all, Basically I loved my 2010 FORD FOCUS DIESEL HATCHBACK 1.6 TDCI STYLE 5DR [110] [DPF] MANUAL and had it up to 119500 miles. It regularly got up to 54-56 mpg when commuting 5mins on country roads, 20mins motorway driving. It was sitting at 53.6mpg when I sold her privately last night :( After a year of looking and waiting for the right car/deal I decided the time was right to upgrade and bought a private 2012 FORD FOCUS DIESEL HATCHBACK 1.6 TDCI 115 TITANIUM 5DR MANUAL (ECOnetic) version. It has 69000 miles, full service history and last weeks MOT shows 0 advisories. I am only getting 48mpg :( I am gutted about this. When asking fellow focus mk3 1.6 diesel users they are also getting 48/49mpg. I regularly use the cruise control at 70/74mph on motorway driving and think I drive efficently. The last service was 6months ago by a small garage in lancaster where i bought it. Is there a good chance the MPG on my new titanium focus will improve if I put the car through an arnold clark full service? I also miss the 2010 style's steering options of comfort, standard and speed :( I am wondering if I can do anything to improve the MPG? without doing silly stuff like driving down hills with no accelarator etc. Let me know if you need more information. Thanks very much Shaun
  2. Hi there, I have a 2004 Ford KA which doesn't like hot weather. It will start from cold fine and drive fine as well. But if I park it up for any longer than 10 minutes on a hot day, it will really struggle to start, seems to be worse the hotter the weather is. It will still do it on cooler days just not as bad. I have changed the oxygen sensor which made no difference. All I can think of is the idle control valve but it looks like it's a pain to get to! If I start it with say a 1/4 throttle it starts perfectly. Poor Starting: Really Poor Starting, here it was taking ages to start, but as soon as I touch the throttle it starts straight away: Good Starting But Dodgy Idle, as you can see after a while it picks itself up: How It Should Be: My Ka has been doing this for ages so if anyone has any ideas please let me know, Cheers, Ben
  3. Hi, Looking for some help. I have inherited my late fathers Ford Fiesta 1.25 zebec 1998 s Reg (Mk4 I think). It has been stood for about 2 yeas however I have decided to give it the attention it deserves. It has 42k on the clock and is in mint condition. I had a non start issue however found it to be a blown 10 amp fuel pump fuse located under the bonnet. I replaced it and it started first turn of the key. I drove it home from where it was being stored and it didn't run well, a bit chugging. I removed the battery and charged it. Again non start and a blown fuse. I located a grommet under the rear seat and gave the top of the fuel pump a gentle tap and it started up. I left it running to get it warmed up properly as it felt damp inside. I stopped after about 1 hour of idle and it refused to start again literally straight again. I left it for a couple of days and retried it, it started with a little persuasion, however it doesn't idle brilliant, more so when the A/C compressor kicks in. I left it running for ages today and it now won't re start. has anyone had issues with fuel pumps failing. I am thinking it may just be a pressure issue. thanks in advance. Paul

    Mpg - Your Experiences

Hi all I am the owner of a Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 Petrol (2009) in sea grey with 12,000 miles on the clock (pics to appear shortly!) I have had the car for just over a week and whilst it is a joy to drive I am concerned about the MPG that the vehicle appears to be returning. The official Ford figures are: Urban - 32.5mpg Extra Urban - 51.4mpg Combined - 42.2mpg For the first few days the car was being driven around town and returned about 25/26mpg on the computer. On Saturday I filled the car up and reset the trip and mpg computer. I then drove to Bristol and back, a round trip of 240 miles at a steady 75mph and on my return it read 38mpg. I am in the middle of going a brim to brim calculation, however based on the computer alone I have driven a total of 240 miles and will drive another 170 before I need to refuel. Therefore this suggests on a full tank of petrol (55 litres, 12.098303 gallons) the car will drive 410 miles. This equates to just under 34mpg. Bearing in mind I am doing this calculation after a good 'run' and I suspect this will decrease as the remainder of the tank is likely to be around town. I realise this is based on he computer which is just a guide, however gives a good indication that the mpg is not what it should be. My driving style is quite defensive and therefore accelerate gently, anticipate traffic and cruise in gear when possible. Does anyone else have this same issue? Many thanks James
