  1. Hello all, Back after a few years and now with a different car. Apologies if this post is in the wrong place. I recently bought a 2011 Ford Focus (Mk3) Zetec 1.6 125. At the time of purchasing, I thought that the whole car looked to be sitting a bit low, but put it down to the illusion created by the 17 inch wheels and my lack of knowledge of how the mk3 Focus is meant to look. It seems, however, that every other Focus I see, including Zetecs with the 17 inch wheels, seems to be more highly sprung at the rear and some are significantly higher. In fact, I’d say mine sits the same as a Zetec S with the different suspension setup. I’ve not noticed any particularly strange handling characteristics or any noises, but would say that the car can feel a bit harsh on bumpy roads. It also seems to pass the bounce test. Anyway, I took the car to my local garage today, who had a quick look, but couldn’t see anything out of the ordinary (including after market springs). Could it just be that the springs have started to sag a little bit at the back? Are the variations between the cars out of the factory? Does anyone else’s Zetec with the 17 inch wheels sit this way?     Fiesta 2013 Wishbone and Shock's Cost

    Had my 2013 Fiesta Titanium ecoboost for 9 months now and was due a service. Went to an independent garage recommended by a few friends and they did a great job. The guy did however tell me that I needed a new N/S/F Wishbone and 2x Rear Shock Absorbers. Obviously both of these would be an MOT fail when thats due in a few months so I want them both sorting. Was wondering if anyone can give me a rough estimate of how much an independent garage should charge for these jobs? Just so I have a ballpark figure before he quotes it for me. Thanks
  3. My car bangs when going over bumps. The noise is coming from the N/S/R. Also when I hit a large pothole the car seems to kick out a little bit on the back end. Are these the symptoms of faulty shocks? or 1 faulty shock? Thanks
  4. Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help. Both my rear foam bump stops have perished to the point they are now causing noise while driving. One has actually seperted from the plastic dust cover - both are heavily flaked, worn and orange. I have rang my local Quicklane garage and they say that I have to buy the whole rear shock absorber as the bump stops are not seperate on the fiesta. I have tried looking on car part websites to see if the bump stops can be bought and fitted seperately but no such luck unless you believe some ebay listings. The pictures online to buy the rear shocks though only show the absorber without the bump stops and do not mention the foam bump stops in the items description. Can someone confirm if you do have buy the whole shock absober on my fiesta or is thr garage pulling wool over my eyes? The price quoted to replace both rear shocks is £270. Is that about right? thanks in advance! To confirm - I have a 2006 ford fiesta 1.4TDCI. Regards, Craig

    Fiesta Mk4 Suspension

    My Fiesta mk4 is 1998...never had upgraded or replaced Suspension. I am thinking of these options: Replace standard shocks and pop on some 40mm lowering springs...since the shocks atm are 15 plus years old it'd be good to replace em and the springs would fit Standard shocks. Coilovers which would save time and would be the best thing, quality and performance. Sport suspension kit...shocks, springs etc...replacing the standard shocks...kinda like first option but more expensive. I've compared shocks and they just seem to be painted different but look like the same quality...Coils are obviously great choice and would hold up over time. replacing the shocks and springs to me would be just like fresh suspension after 15 years of standards on normal springs...since the cars old but i'd still like to look after it as I was gifted it...what do you think is good or bad etc? Exhaust system with race tube fitted, air filter, front brakes/pads and 14's so far...MOT soon so I will get em check my shocks so I can consider it in the next year. Thanks
  6. As the title suggests...I'm grumpy now!! Decided to pop out and have a nebski at the car today - in particular the brakes. Dawned on me that they're potentially all original factory fitted parts & I've never looked at them. Decided to replace anyway, the front pads are probably at just under half-original thickness, discs have maybe worn down by under 1mm (so not too bad, there is 2mm to play with and they only very light scoring to the face). Rears - similar story with the meat on the shoes and the drums look ugly (surface corrosion) so I'll change those too. However, I was hoping to do it a month apart - spread the cost a bit That's not the problem...was expecting to be at least replacing pads/shoes and was tempted to do discs/drums for peace of mind. What I wasn't expecting to find, however: Leaky rear NS shock absorber and excessive wear on the inside edge of the front tyres. I've attached piccies below. Soo - dear Forum Folk...and the reason I've posted in the General Ford section Ford/Motorcraft or aftermarket? If aftermarket what are your recommendations? Also, does anyone else know why it's so hard to find drums for a Mk2.5 Focus (query same as Transit Connect drums)? However, small victory - managed to get my mudguards fitted - I'll whack up a guide in the next few days!!
  7. THE QUESTIONS: I need to "downgrade" the factory sport suspension on my '06 C-Max. Will I be done with replacing the springs and the shocks, or are there any rods, arms and other parts that must be replaced also as the ride gets higher? I read that different brands of springs of the same height also have big differences in comfort. Which normal height springs should I look for when aiming for the softest riding C-Max in the world? Perhaps used originals? ----------- THE REASON: I need to do this because my permanently busted back is handling the "sport" pretty badly, especially on the speed bumps our town is riddled with. I'm currently running the 205/55R16 tires with only 2.0 bars (30psi) front and 1.8 bars (26psi) rear, and while smaller bumps are now mostly manageable, I'm forced to go quite a bit further. A higher ride will also help getting out of the car. (Yes, my back is really that bad.) I am aware that tires and especially the rim diameter makes a world of difference, but I really need to extend the suspension travel. If I could choose, I would take the delightfully floaty and feather light suspension from a Honda FR-V... But the driver position in that car was horrific. Most aftermarket spring manufacturers exist only for lowering and stiffening the suspension, so I'm having a hard time finding comparisons or even discussion in softening the ride. I want to go as far as possible with the softening, since the car is otherwise so great.

    Rear Shocks

    Hi All,hope someone can help me out i have a fiesta 1.4 zetec 2000 w reg,only had the car about 3 weeks and its a cracking little motor,its done 147 thou so first job was get cam belt changed,the problem now is its knocking from the rear and have been told it is the upper bush on the shock,just want some advice on how difficult a job this is to do,would like to have a go at doing it,thanks for reading. :D

    Shock Absorber

    Hi all, My 1.25 MK7 Fiesta (2010) is currently resting on AP Coilovers and the offside rear shock is leaking, could anyone help me find the best site to buy an AP Farahawk shock absorber so I can fix this asap, I need one before 09/July.

    Do I Need New Shocks/springs

    hi all, i've had my 06' focus tdci for a few months now and have noticed that the ride quality is a bit harsh on uneven roads. i have replaced the tyres as they were on the limit and things have improved a bit. the car has done 132k and has a full service history. it often crashes over bumps and potholes i'd expect it to take in its stride. the front end sometimes wallows up and down a little bit. i've read that the focus has a harsher ride than most similar cars, but mine seems a bit too harsh. my question is, do i need new shocks and/or springs? or is there something else i should get checked? cheers
