Clutch Biting Point

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I recently bought a 2009 1.6 Zetec, loving it to bits but I only got a very short (3months /3000 miles) warranty on it.

I had a 206 beforehand the clutch was super light and biting point was right on the floor, it had a recent clutch.

The Focus clutch pedal is firm to press in but no real effort, but the bite point is quite high, ie near the end of the pedal travel before fully engaged. It doesn't slip and operates as it should.

Vehicle has only covered 37000 miles and full dealer service history.

Does this sound like it's about to go or is it I was used to the "no mats" Peugeot I had before.

The Peugeot clutch, I believe, didn't change as it was auto adjustable? Is the Focus the same.

I'm a worrier and this is the most expensive car I have ever bought!

Cheers.

All Fords have a high clutch, perfectly normal.

Sent from my SM-G900F using Ford OC mobile app

very reassuring. Thanks,

i ask this exact question about a month ago, the clutch on my 1.6 tdci seemed high to me but was told they are all like that

I say dont expect any click until your about 40% to 60% of the way lifting the clutch, this is perfectly normal and isnt anything to worry about :)

Cheers guys you have put my mind at ease, My Mrs was dreading me spending more than £500 on a "Plenty of miles left of that" 6 month MOT special that I usually buy.

I found a couple of issues I will fix myself the tailgate button doesn't work and the part of the trim you grab to close the tailgate is a little loose. It's also got a little trim rattle by the back door somewhere but the suspension is rock solid I would have expected a few more rattles to be honest, goes round corners on rails though. Got to last me 5 years.

Thanks again.

glad to be of service :) we all have had gremlins at some point and just learn from it, always better to share the confidence, theres nothing worse than feeling alone in a corner when something doesnt seem to be going right!

I have a 2009 1.6 Focus as well.I absoutley love the car. Great driveing car and very spacious for kids in back and good size boot to.

I myself had this worry as the clutch seemed to have a high bit But like the posts say its normal and nothing to worry about.

And this forum is the best place on the net for advice/help/tips on your ford. Great allround.

even after a new clutch the bite point settles up high no idea why ford do it that way to be honest but its nothing to worry about unless you put the foot down and the revs go up but the speed doesnt

I pressed mark as solved and seem to have chosen my own post as best answer!

Sorry about that, as there was not actually a problem all the advice are all best answers I guess.
