Petrol Smell Interior

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a 2002 Ford Ka 1.3 and noticed (couldn't miss it!) this morning that it reeked of fuel. This may be a bit of a silly question, but, could it be that I had parked sideways on quite a steep hill (fuel cap side down) and had just filled up with fuel (hot weather too, 35º) or is it just wishful thinking on my part that it is that simple?

If definitely seems to be coming from the body of the car, no huge smell under the bonnet.

All ideas welcome!

Thanks,

Charlotte

We had a fiesta until recently, it was a 99 reg. We discovered that if we completely fill up with petrol it stank inside for a few days, so we stopped filling it up to the brim. It stopped the smell. Hope this helps! :)

If I had to guess I would think you have a corroded fuel line, or the filler neck seal is dodgy. I had this issue with a ST24, check the fuel tank near the filler area, if the seal is gone you will see where the fuel has leaked, or if it is releasing vapour you should see the air 'dance'. Due to the explosive nature of fuel it is worth investigating further.

Thanks guys.

Took it to the garage...... They said there was a small break in the fuel line and replaced the tubing. But I still avoid parking on that steep hill side on ;)

All good now :)

Good good. Keep an eye on it though as if one part split then others may appear in time.
