Focus Mk3 - Is There A Gps Socket On Rear Of Stereo Unit?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a problem with my built-in SAT NAV where is has started to show 'No GPS'. I have gone into the 'Engineers Menu' and it shows that the connection to the antenna is fine, but zero satellites and zero signal strength.

I've attached a pic of the unit I've got, so hopefully it has worked!

I've been to the Ford garage and they want £60 to run the usual diagnostics and then approx. £200+ to probably replace the roof aerial, which would need the roof lining dropping to access the mounting bolt.

Does anyone know if the rear of the stereo unit has a socket for the GPS antenna lead (FAKRA?) or is it part of the loom and multiplug?

I've seen pics of two sockets, one white and one black. I think one is for the radio antenna and I'm hoping the other is for the GPS antenna. If it's a FAKRA connection I can get a GPS antenna off eBay for around a tenner and either leave it hidden behind the dash, or mount it on top for a better signal.

The built-in SAT NAV is nothing special, but is so handy, but not to the tune of £250+!!

Any advice on the socket type, etc, would be great, or if someone's tried a different GPS antenna.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi. The GPS connector is on the back of the screen its blue. I retrofitted a sat nav a few months back and got a GPS antenna (fakra) from ebay for £7 and stuck it on the side of the radio behind the front panel. Works perfect.

Excellent Richie! That's good to hear from someone who's done it before.

Have you looked in the 'Engineers Menu' to see how many satellites it picks up?

I assumed all connections were at the back of the stereo. Do you have to remove the stereo to get the screen out, or can it come out on its own?

Hi Steve. Yes i used to look at how many satellites i was picking up when i first installed it. I usually get between 8-13 but its never let me down so far. Screen is held in with 4 screws then the whole lot should pull out. Regarding the GPS antenna again it was easier for me to buy the fakra from ebay rather than take all the roof and trim out.

Hi Jamie/Ricardo,

Sorry, only just saw your posts.

To get into the 'Engineers Menu' you need to have the stereo powered on, press and hold the 'Nav' button and then a single press of the 'Menu' button. Not sure if this works with all the variations of stereos. Mine is similar to the one pictured in this post, but with the Sat-Nav built-in.

Thanks,

Steve
