How Much Approximately To Replace A Gearbox On Mk2 Focus Diesel 1.8 ?

I have a 2006 mk2 focus diesel 1.8 and I suspect the gearbox may need to replacing at some point as I hear a clunking noise when pressing clutch in, apart from hearing the clunking the car drives great and goes into each gear brilliantly, it's just the noise that is concerning me.


How much do you think a BACK STREET garage would charge to replace Gearbox, I believe the sub-frame on my car doesn't need to come off as it does on some other car's.

( I know it's a good idea to replace Clutch at same time but I don't want to pay around £350 for a clutch kit and feel unsure if they have actually used it and not trying to rip me off, If a friend was to do gearbox I would replace clutch at same time)
