Police/mod/security K9 Mk2 Focus Estate Airflow To Dog Crate

The professional K9 transport Foci, have the Pacet ventfan positioned dead centre of the roof panel, which is the highest point in the cabin, directly above where the rear seats would be, if it were not a K9 car.

On the two previous cars (Peugeot 406 estate & Vauxhall Astra estate), where I have installed a Pacet ventfan, I have positioned it directly above the dog's crate. Which occupies the whole of the boot/cargo area. Neither of these cars have the roof curvature of the Focus, so there was no issue with potential hot pockets at the top of the cabin.

On the vague off-chance that one of the 67,705 registered users of FOC, has an ex-police or security Mk2 Focus Estate with the dog crate still in place - is the ventfan ducted to the dog crate?

my dad when he was alive was a dog handler, when he retired he was security for the building sites and had a van a fiesta i think it had the spinny thing on the roof.it just drew air into the vehicle it wasn't ducted and i dont think police cars are.

That's a Flettner vent which is wind powered. I used to fit one of those too before I got the Pacet

The Pacet Ventfan which I've got is powered

My old mk2.5 patrol wagon was fitted with a ducted vent where the airflow was directed to the crate.

My current wagon is an unmarked mk3 ST and has a secondary aircon supply ducted through the passenger footwell so the crate is fully air conditioned for better climate control and no visible vents on the roof.

If the rear temperature goes outside a preset temperature range an alarm sounds and I get a visual warning on a dash mounted control/thermometer readout.

Thanks Clive :)

I expect no visible vents is excellent idea for your work - stealth

The temperature alarm is an excellent idea, I'll have to adapt that, and build something that can send a text to my phone. If I've got to leave her for say half an hour, I have a vinyl sign that I put on the window "If the pancake fan on the roof has stopped working, or the dog is distressed, please call xxxxxxx, immediately!"

Independant air con was something I thought about previously, borrowing all the gear from a refrigerated truck. But it takes up too much room on a car.

If you create something that sends a text I'll be very impressed!!!!!

Clive in the ST, are the dogs separate? Do you have a bulk head behind you or are you all in the se space...

The technology exists, it's just a matter, of putting it together, and coding it, so it all works, happily.

Every time I rebuild it, or move it to another car, I keep adding things to it.

At first it was just a Flettner vent, above her crate. Then it became a Pacet ventfan , powered from a secondary battery. Followed soon after, for winter was approaching - an under floor/under-crate heating system - which is essentially the same as the heated seats.

There are two sepersted crates with small storage slots above them for kit.

The rear seats are removed and the crates extend half way between where the rear seat backs would be and the back of the front seats.

The rear footwells are covered with a flat platform coated in rubber to allow space for me to hold gear but also allow roure to/from the crates to get the dogs through the cab area if need be.

All my cages have been supplied by the company that those photos were borrowed from, Trans K9 in Scotland.

The ventilation in my old car was from Pacet but unsure who my current vehicle system was fitted by as it's all in the engine bay and under the passenger footwell floor area.
