Focus Newbie Looking For Advice

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, My name is Adam and i currently own a 2013 1.6tdci Ford focus zetec. I have recently had the car remapped so it now has 150bhp instead of the standard 115. I was looking to get an exhaust system put on it and was looking for recommendations. looking for cheap options but that will make it sound good. I have seen a couple of the same cars with longlife exhausts on them but trying to price them in my area is a nightmare with no one getting back in touch. hope you can help thanks

Hi welcome :)

Hello and Welcome Adam :)

hi and welcome

Hi and welcome Adam. Looks like you'll have to try out of your area. Go online and get an exhaust system delivered then either fit it yourself or get it fitted.

Have you had your car on a rolling road to confirm the power of your car? Has the remap improved your fuel consumption or made it worse?

I suggest you get a K&N 57s 4000 induction kit. I've got it on my car (same engine as yours) and if you leave the rubber bung out of the filter the induction roar will impress.

Hi tazzman600, I havent had it on a rolling road yet, it is being organised. there is a power increase for sure. its is very noticeable. And i was looking at the K&N system that you have can get them for £124 on amazon but the filter alone is £54. so essentially paying £70 for the k&N cover? Does it make that much of a difference? Need a better air flow system and exhaust then i will be happy. But dont want to break the bank if you get me?

Hi Adam. I know what you mean about the price difference between filter alone and with top cover. I ran my car for 2 weeks with the standard top cover and without the rubber bung fitted. I now run with the K&N cover and with bung fitted and it is better. The standard cover has loads of ridges and webbing which upsets airflow. The K&N top is smooth and I have noticed a better throttle response. Some form of tuning is next on the cards.

Hello again, the cheapest i have seen the system is £127.89 on amazon.

would this be a reasonable price and am i likely to get it cheaper anywhere else? Still needing ideas for getting the exhaust done. Can any one recommend a custom exhaust maker that wont charge a fortune?

Thanks again guys

Ive purchased the part and it will delivered on monday, I dont have much technical or mechanical skills so how easy is this to install? and how long did it take?

Hi Adam. It's an easy job. You'll need a 7mm socket on a 6" extention bar. There are 4 bolts. Unscrew and lift off the top cover. You'll then see the filter. Note at its right side end that it sits within a slim groove in the airbox base and top. Take out old filter and replace with your new one remembering about the slim groove.

The 4 screws are still on the old top cover. To remove them just keep unscrewing and they'll screw out.

In the new top cover they just flop into the mount lugs. Place the new top cover where the old one came off. It may seem fiddly but it isn't. Just gently wriggle it and it'll fall into place. Place the screws into one mounting lug at a time. The awkward one is the one right next to the battery box. Use long nose pliers or be careful using your fingers so it doesn't drop down into the engine bay. Tighten the screws but not too tight.

Note. Be careful when putting the screws in each lug. When I got mine 3 fitted perfect but the one nearest the headlight was a couple mm out so I got a replacement and that fitted perfect all round.

Try your new filter without the rubber bung (I didn't get one in my kit. K&N sent me one in the post for free) you may like the induction noise. It may even change your mind about getting an exhaust.

Oh. The job only took 10 mins

result what's induction noise like

To me personally the Induction noise is too much but it would of been great back in the day. In the diesel the induction noise is not only heard but felt. Good thing tho is if I feel like being a "Johnny boy' then all I'd have to do is pop the bonnet open and within 10 seconds have a roarty induction noise. Best of both worlds.

Hi guys, so ive just took delivery of the kit. £100 on amazon, a great saving of the £200. quick question, does it affect the air flow sensor at all? ie bringing on any engine warning lights or does it just act like a normal air filter?

Thanks again

I just plonked mine in and didn't give a thought to the air sensor and I've had No warning lights.
