streetka: c/locking, oil leak, rear window

Featured Replies

hi all, new member and first time Ka owner. Just bought the mrs an 04 Streetka for xmas and it has a few issues, hoping someone with experience can point me in the right direction.

First off, the central locking issues. Doors and boot unlock fine with the key, occasionally the drivers door will get itself stuck in a lock/unlock cycle until the key is turned again. Seems a common problem, sticky/worn solenoid?

Replaced the battery in the remote, reprogrammed as advised on youtube etc. still no remote locking, at all. This car has been chavved to the max unfortunately, holes in the dash, godawful stickers, crap painted alloys, the works. If someone could tell me where to find the remote receiver and security module(?) i would be thankful, pain in the proverbial to keep opening the boot through the lock box.

Oil leak, after a run hot oil can be smelled from where it has dripped onto the exhaust. Not ideal. Suspect rocker cover gasket? engine is covered from the head downwards.

Finally, can anyone recommend somewhere to get the flexible rear window replaced? there are only a couple of tears (!) but the big problem is its extremely hard to see through!

(side question, anyone recommend a good waterproofing product for the roof fabric?)

Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!

Hi Mondez,

Wow, rear window is a real pain in the nuts. You can order a new one around £100 from eBay, but replacement involves fitting new zip parts and open up the hood's fabric what you have to glue back. Possible worth to pay the £180-200(including the window) for someone who has the knowledge.

For waterproofing I bought the Auto Glym set fro Halfords. To be honest , my soft top didn't see too much rain, because I also have the hardtop, but seen ok when got wet last time after the treatment.

About the oil leak and remote pass...
