2 Months / 2000 miles

Featured Replies

Well, what do I think after 2 months/2000 miles?

Like

  • Handling (feels more planted than my Mondeo did)
  • Comfort, smoothness, quietness
  • Commanding ride height
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Mpg. Average since new is 39.8 mpg which I think is pretty good for such a lump. Can get 43mpg on long motorway journey.
  • Sync 3 (except maybe Satnav)

Not so much

  • Traffic sign recognition is OK but not persistent enough, it forgets!  If you are in a long 30 zone it will forget after a bit and it will forget immediately if you signal left then right (or vice versa) which is a pain if you have speed limiter on auto as all of a sudden you start to accelerate.  Makes the system of limited use.  I also get a message when accessing the settings that says “Traffic sign recognition Reduced performance See manual”. Guess what, nothing in the manual about it!!!
  • Lane departure assist.  I have disabled it for normal driving.  I found the way it interfered with the steering quite off putting and it helped make the car feel a bit skittish on normal roads regardless of its settings or intensity. I might use it for long motorway journeys but otherwise it is staying off.
  • It is a little gutless at low RPM and needs 1500-2000 rpm to be responsive
  • Need to find a way of stopping it acting like a robotic disco when being washed with a power wash (locking/unlocking every time water jet touches door handles.
  • Rear disks starting to show same grooving that others have shown on this forum.

All in all really pleased with it so far.

Jim

Have you tried leaving the keys in the car when washing?

  • Author

Not had the nerve to do that yet as the car wash is quite far from home.

Technically that should work as I tested locking it with keys inside (the spare was 30 yds away) and it won't do it however there is a setting that will switch that off and we've seen several instances on this forum where the computer has needed reprogramming because it has got it in it's head to change something on it's own.  I know computers don't "think" for themselves, or do they? I do think they are vindictive sometimes:)

Isn't there a valet mode in one of the menus for this sort of thing.

  • Author

There is but it is a way of locking the Sync 3 to stop fiddling by a valet. Now't to do with door locks.

"Valet Mode
Valet mode allows you to lock the system. No information is accessible until the system is unlocked with the correct PIN.
When you select valet mode a pop up appears informing you that a four digit code must be entered to enable and disable valet mode. You can use any PIN you chose but you must use the same PIN to disable valet mode. The system asks you to input the code.
Note:  If the system locks, and you need to reset the PIN, contact an authorized dealer."
