Low profile tyre question.

Featured Replies

Hi guys I have to buy winter tyres for my Edge for winter.

Someone has offered me a cheap set of winters but they are 235/35/19.

What issues do you think I will have going so low profile?

Inaccurate speedo. Very harsh ride. Why do you need winter tyres when it's almost June?

He did say for winter Kelvin. Guessing he's in Germany and it's a legal requirement.

So nothing unsafe then?

Yea in Germany and it's the cheapest time to pick them up now. Have been offered a set for 100 euros which is a hard offer to pass up considering how much a new set would cost.

As far as I can work out, the profile of the tyres you've been offered will make your speedo read higher than normal for a given speed. If you can put up with that, then other than a firmer ride, you'll probably be fine.

Well I picked them up. The money they save me I couldn't say no.

That'll also mean that your odometer will show more miles than the car has actually done !

There should be a setting to select the rolling radius of the tyre or wheel size. You might be able to change that through Forscan. Someone with the tool might be able to comment further on that.

Yea that's abit of a concern.

This will show you how far out you'll be. Generally, up to + or -1% difference is statistically acceptable. http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyre-size-calculator/

It's a 12% difference. Will see if something else pops up before the snow comes.
