'54 KA boot floor grommets/plugs

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have a standard 1.3 petrol KA that I recently bought.  I've noticed that when it's wet there is water collecting in the boot floor pan.  It doesn't have the original carpet and instead has a aftermarket rubber liner.

When I removed this to investigate the water ingress, I noticed in both corners, near the rear light clusters, the previous owner has gaffer taped the floor.  Removing this tape has revealed two 38mm diameter, round holes in the floor.  It would appear they are part of the manufacturing process but whatever grommet or plug was meant to be in them is not there.

My question is, does anyone know what these holes are for and where I can source replacement grommets/plugs.

Many thanks in advance.

Dan

If it leaks water it might be that these were removed in an attempt to let water that comes in, run back out again.  I have had a few cars over the years that have leaked water and I have punched these circular filler things out, particularly under the spare wheel. In the past they were usually metal and quite thin (like a jam jar lid would be) and were put in place before the car was painted.  I don't know what they would typically be made of these days

I'm fairly certain these hole are the cause of the ingress due to the fact these holes have been patched up with gaffer tape in the past.

Thank you though.

The holes are all part of the stamping process for the floor panels, they allow relief on the metal to stop wrinkling when being pressed out.

I'll look up the grommet set details for you in a moment.

Price will vary as well as the listed quantity, if ordering from a Dealership I'd confirm how many you get before the order is processed.

Available from ebay here-

Brilliant. This is great. From the diagram I've no also realised that the plug listed HP3 is also missing.

Thanks for your help!

HP3 is a 19x1.3 plug, Finis code is 6696519 and about £2 from Ford.

It seems to be a bung that's been used by ford for many years looking at the various models it fits.
