High Idle Rev's When Stationary

Featured Replies

Ji Guys,

I have a Mondeo 2l 03plate

Recently everytime I come to a standstill my car revs to 3k for 3 seconds before coming back down to 1k

I have bought a Haynes manual so have have just changed the Idle control vavle and also the Throttle body and sensor and there is no change

Is there anyone out there that has had the same problem that could possibly help

Its getting quite embarasing pulling up at every juction with this revving noise

Thanks in advance

Petrol or diesel?

Its likely to be the throttle position sensor, its attached to the accelorator pedal

Hi Guys,

Its a Petrol engine 2.0ltr

I thought the Throttle sensor was on the Throttle Body connected to the engine enf of the throttle cable which I have changed. What sensor in connected to the pedal ??

Chris

Ok ignore that if you are on a cable

try look at the condition of this, Crankcase breather hose under the inlet manifold.

Thanks Plumbob - I took the Inlet manifold off and there was a 4 inch split along the vacuum hose - replaced this and the 4 gaskets (whilst I had it off) and its running like a dream.

No problem buddy, i am really happy you got it fixed!

4 inch, that is a big split!

Hi, this is 14 years late to reply, but for anyone else that has this problem with high revs. If replacing the idle control valve doesn’t solve the problem, then it is likely the vacume rubber pipe to the PCV valve that has a split in it. Get a garage to do a smoke test to confirm it.

It was the problem for our MK 3 Mondeo and resulted in a high bill for labour to get to the pipe as it required the starter motor, radiator and inlet manifold to be removed to get to it.

The mechanic called me into the garage halfway through the job so that he could show me how much he’d had to take out to get to the pipe so I wouldn’t question the labour charge later. The 14cm pipe from Ford cost 65 euros alone.

The cost of replacing the pipe with the labour probably outweighs the value of the car in some cases. For us, it was better to keep the car as it was otherwise perfect and corrosion free for a 20 year old car. Hope this helps someone.
