Ford Focus Clutch Replacement Question

Hi, I have a ford focus 1.6, petrol, 2003. Recently the revs have started shooting up when I have been accelerating eg coming out of a roundabout and my clutch bite point is very high.

I have presumed this means a new clutch. I have got a couple of quotes best being from a garage who have advised:

"Price: 304.92 includes a concentric slave cylinder required for your vehicle. May need flywheel regrind additional 39.95".

How do I know that I need the slave cylinder replaced and/or flywheel regrinded? Is it not possible to have just the clutch replaced?

It is possible just to have the clutch replaced but if the slave cylinder goes 1000 miles later that means the gearbox will have to come off again costing you another £200 in labour so it's best to have it changed as well.ive never heard of a flywheel needed grinding though!

Replacing the bearing isn't necessary but it's daft not too as they can leak and it's the whole job again!

Any clutches I've done I have never had to have a flywheel machined but I have replaced a cracked one

agree with the above its just common sense to replace the cylinder while its all apart its cheaper than having the box split in the future and if it did leak then the new clutch would be ruined meaning you have to buy a new clutch again as well but never heard of anyone getting a flywheel grinded not even ford offer that

Getting the flywheel machined will be an engineering shop job, won't be cheap at most places though.
