escort mk5 fuel problem

i bought an escort mk5 a couple of weeks ago and i seem to think there is a problem with it, i fill the tank up (£44) and i only seem to get 200 miles out of it which i think is not right, aparently i shud be getting nearly 300 miles out of it as my friend who also owns one told me, it is a 1.3ltr L reg, anybody have any ideas ? :(

there are a few things that can cause your fuel to be used up to much, on carb models the carb needs cleaning out, and on all models could be air filter clogged up. or spark plugs worn or defected.

try changing your air filter and plugs, also give it an oil change, could see some good results, not sure if this will help but worth a try. cheers mick

I had the very same problem with mine when i first bought it. A couple of shopping trips would empty my tank. I gave it a mini service myself (Cost about £35 for everything). New spark plugs, air filter, Oil filter and oil change. I also changed the fuel filter, but i don't think that will be necasary. I also took off all my breather hoses and gave them a thorough cleaning. Might sound trivial, but I did it anyway to be safe. Hope this helps.
