I have a 59 reg ford KA, petrol, 91,000 on the clock. Ive had it for 3 months now, first car since passing test. Took me a while to get used to it as learnt in a skoda fabia diesel. Past few weeks its been juddering in first gear when moving off also judders in reverse, im still unable to do a hill start while using handbrake as it just stalls. Its starting to judder all the time now even when my husband drove it and hes been driving 10+ years. Is my clutch on its way out?

Thanks

Is it only when using the clutch or does it judder when accelerating as well?  It does sound like the clutch tbh but obviously hard to say without driving the car.

Only when the clutch is engaging when first pulling away, doesnt judder when putting it into any other gear while driving. Its getting really embarrassing now! Even though its happened when my husband drove it last night hes still adamant that its all fine and its just me worrying.

I would check the engine mounts in that case, it might be the engine moving too much as you try to pull away.  I'm not sure if any of the Ka mounts are prone to failing early but I've had to change them on younger Focus' and Fiestas.

Also remember you need a lot more revs to pull away smoothly in a petrol than a diesel, especially for a hill start.

Thanks for the help. Very strange, drove to work and it didnt judder once, the only difference is a full tank of petrol?????

Very odd...not sure what to suggest there, hopefully it's fixed itself!
