Long story short, my 1.8tdci  had very knotchy gears, this happened gradually over the space of about 6 months, all gears were knotchy. recently we replaced the gearbox clutch and flywheel assuming it was the synchro in the box that was faulty. new box fitted and the gears feel exactly the same. i am convinced it is the cables so at the weekend i adjusted them and its exactly the same still. With the cables detached from the box the gearstick moves freely, you can only adjust one cable at the box which i have tried, moving the gear selector by hand it goes in easily which further in my mind points to the cables, is there a knack to getting them set right or would i be best to buy new, even though they move freely when detached.

If it's anything like doing them on a mondeo it's tricky to get right.
