Crack in roof glass panel

Washed the car on Saturday and whilst drying it off I noticed a crack in the rear glass panel on the roof. On Monday I took it local Ford garage and the quoted me £1650 for the glass.

    It's such a common problem, they should be replacing it under warranty.

    If you look at the glass it's not a smooth curve. It looks like its not designed to take the stress of a structural part of the body shell, especially when the glass and body expand and contract at different rates. You could say why doesn't the windscreen suffer from the same issues then ... well, the windscreen has a much larger curve and its double laminated (for strength!). Also, the shape of the rear roof glass (with the cutout for the antenna mounting) is just a big stress riser.

    I would argue the case for a warranty replacement. With the historic issues reported here, the Ford Edge World Wide and Ford UK Facebook Groups, it is not an isolated incident by any stretch of the imagination. If your local Ford garage won't listen, TAKE IT TO ONE THAT WILL !

    Just google "ford edge roof glass cracked" and look at the cases. There is even a class action against Ford in the USA for it!
