Reversing sensors fault

Featured Replies

Hi, just wondering if any one can help.

I have a2012 Ford Focus 1.6tdci econetic and my reversing sensors have stopped working. They throwing up the code b1b44 14-2f  (I have b1b46/48/50 as well) indicates the possibility of an open circuit. I have checked the fuse, checked the connector, checked the earth and all look fine, reset the dtc but nothing works. Any clues

thanks in advance

kc

check the wiring harness to the sensors, known to corrode in the harness and break wires

Hi try turning the ignition on but dont start the car and select reverse gear and put your ear against each sensor and you should a faint clicking sound if there is no clicking sound from a sensor its ether that sensor faulty or the wiring to the sensor

Thanks, for the responses.

Checked each sensor, no clicking but I think the signal not getting that far so wouldn't expect any signal. I am however interested in the corroded harness. What's the solution. New harness? Are these available at a reasonable cost?

When I had a problem with my sensors, after checking the wiring as Ian suggests above, it looked like it was a faulty sensor. As a Ford sensor was a totally stupid price, and you can get an entire system for under £15, that is what I did. To change one sensor, or properly inspect the wiring, the rear bumper has to come off. Not a difficult job, but a bit fiddly & time consuming. So replacing the lot is no worse.

The sensors fitted nicely inside the adapters and same bumper holes that the Ford ones did, and the module was a perfect fit in the same location. It just needed power from the reversing light. I had a bit more bother as I tow, so it had to be disabled with the tow module on, but this was not too hard.

It has no CAN connection or clever stuff, just beeps as I approach an obstruction, which is all I want. I did not even bother with the visual display, not worth the hassle in my view.

Been on for about 4 years now, no problems.

The one I got is no longer listed, but it looked very much like this:

Thanks for the response, replacing the system is an option but not until I have exhausted all my options if you know what I mean. Today I checked for a voltage at both outer sensors and I got nothing which suggests the problem is before the sensors. I then tested the loom connector and got 2.5v across a number of pins. Thoughts?

Would the diagrams below be any help in trying to track the signals?

It is in 2 sections to get the resolution up. (via copy & paste out of a big pdf.)

I would expect Gnd to be the battery ground, or bodywork. For the power, it says VBAT, so I would expect 12v battery voltage.
