SYNC 3 and CarPlay

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I was looking for some feedback on the following topic.

I have recently bought a brand new EcoSport St-Line at first I loved the car but that all stopped when i started using CarPlay...

I bought the car on the first of May and it has been at the dealership on and off for 2.5 weeks (out of the 2 months I have owned it) with them attempting to replace parts to try and rectify the issue. They have tried a hard reset, APIM Module and software updates.

The issue i am having is that CarPlay keeps freezing and locking up the head unit. This happens whether I am using Music, Maps, Siri and any other app available through CarPlay. The only way to fix it is to unplug the phone and then continues to use Bluetooth audio as the USB port will fail.

The main reason for this is post is to see if anyone else is having an issue with SYNC 3, not just in an EcoSport but any Ford Model.

I am looking to collate the info and send this onto Ford as i have spoken to many people and they have all had issues.

Any replies would be much appreciated.

As Carplay is running on the phone, are you sure the headphone is locking up, and not the phone? If you disconnect the phone, does Sync work normally? Then the issue is with the phone.

With carplay Sync (resp. any Carplay enabled headunit) everything runs on the iPhone, the headunit only receives a video stream, and transmits the touchscreen pperation.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back.

I have tried multiple phones and iOS versions. The phone itself doesnt lockup as the phone can straight away be connected via bluetooth and continue playing where it left off. I have sent multiple videos to Ford and just havent had anything back after just under 2 months.

To answer your question if i go straight back to Sync it acts normally. However then it fails to connect back to my phone. Like i say i have tried multiple phones and they have all had the same issue. These have been iOS 9 and iOS 11.4 and both have failed on completely different model of iPhone.
