2011 focus cutting out in low revs

Featured Replies

Hi All new to the forum.  I've recently had a problem with my 2011 1.6 petrol focus cutting out in low revs.  No lights come on but when the mechanic read the error codes it came up with a shutter valve code and an abs error code.  He deleted the codes and worked fine for a couple of days but it has started to do it again.  Any ideas what could be the problem could be??

Thanks

Ashley

I strongly recommend getting your own code reader. Being able to read codes often, and when they occur, is much better than waiting for someone else to do it. Deleting codes cures absolutely nothing, but if you have a code reader, it does enable you to tell how quickly they come back, which is useful information.

The codes are very often not accurate, and may not directly point to some bit of kit. They must be combined with symptoms and timing, to get a decent diagnosis. But they do help.

Without some codes or data recording, random stalling could be lots of things, air in fuel, fuel pump, injectors, spark plugs/leads/coils, or various engine sensors.

Any self contained OBD2 scanner will read most basic engine related error codes. Forscan is probably the best system for Fords generally, but is not quite so convenient to use. Either way, you are looking at under £25, while a dealer diagnosis will cost at least £80 per visit.
