Ford Fiesta 2009 1.4 TDCI intermittent jitters

Featured Replies

Hi, reposting this here as I think this is more correct than the ford fiesta forum.

i own a 2009 ford fiesta 1.4 tdci and for some time, the car has been having random jitters. This can last for a few seconds, and only feels like a small blip.

Today however, i got the esp warning light togheter with the power train light. The car went into limp mode so I pulled over.

Restarted the car, and everything seemed fine. Took it to a ford dealer whom read the error codes. A single code was recorded.

P1202 injector 2 open / short circuit

The ford dealer looked at the injector and found no signs of leakage.

They said that I should drive some more and return if it happens again.

what do you guys think, are the small blips related to this? And what could be wrong?

The engine warnings and limp mode happened right after i drove over a small bump. Dont know if that matters. Could it indicate electrical wire errors?

Have same car with same problems but lucky enough to be in the trade,

the blip or random misfire is a well known problem that ford have tried to fix with software updates since the mk6 tdci but never fully solved the problem, it’s usually around 2000 revs so it’s just something that will need to be lived with, the fault with the injector is also fairly common and  shouldn’t repeat itself very often but simply turning the car off and on again clears the problem, I wouldn’t waste money looking into these problems as you are very unlikely to solve them

What is the software update called? Just in case I want to ask for it. Dont think the car has got any since 2009. Had to update the bluetooth radio myself to get support for sound over usb.

I dont mind the small blips, but the injector thing is worrisom. I have read many horror stories about broken injectors leading to faulty turbo and so on.

The software is a Ecu update but only done by Ford or a tech with access to the ford machine and network, the update may improve the issue but it hasn’t solved the problem, the short in the injector is likely to just be a software glitch as if it was the actual injector it wouldn’t be resettable and would be a permanent fault.

Hi. Do you by any chance know how to check which injectors are used? The bosch or siemens ones? Without removing them of course.

Bosch and Siemens injectors are a different shape.  The leak off pipe on Bosch injectors is on top, on Siemens injectors it's on the side.
