HELP NEEDED - Non-Running - 'Engine Malfunction Service Now'

Featured Replies

Help needed and greatly appreciated in advance.

I have 2011 Focus 1.6 TDCi. Approximately 113k on the clock. Serviced regularly and never a problem before.

Then only a few days ago, whilst driving home, she displayed a warning light 'Engine Malfunction Service Now', went into idle mode and then after 20 meters stopped and cut out completely.

Upon trying to start her, whilst she was turning over, she would not start. When recovery crew came, they sprayed Easy Start into the Air Intake Pipe and she started up, only temporarily and then died off.

Towed home and looked up some of the response to similar issues others have had. From this, I replaced the fuel filter, checked the pipes and seals...all seemed good. Got her started again, then a few miles from home, she's done the same again.

Trying to decide whether this is a job to be done at home or whether she needs to go to the garage.

A few suggestions show the worst case scenario (Fuel Pump) and Crankshaft Sensor as being other possible culprits.

Any other ideas would be welcomed.

The car starting on easy start makes me think it's more of a injector problem than crankshaft sensor...

I take it you've tried to plug an OBD2 scanner in and got some codes?
