Hi Paul , I have a 2001 mondeo diesel I had it since 2004,and find it very reliable good trips long and short, you have to look for electrical faults such as central locking sometimes all doors lock them self while,driving thats 1 thing, the other is boot release check it works from inside the car ok, body work check for stone chip's on the bonnet, look for rust on exhaust, look at bottom edge's of all door's and boot or tail gate, check oil filler cap for foam, mileage depending on age of car for a diesel,allow no more than 25,000 mile per year for its age, any more than this is a lot and would and should affect the price of the car other than that there good and reliable, Good hunting Nigel
