Engine is pulling 16A from my battery!

Featured Replies

Hey all,

My battery kept dying within a few hours, even after a full charge.

I pulled out the multi-meter and found when the battery forms a complete circuit with the engine, there's a 16amp draw.

This is a massive pull!

Any idea what would cause this?

Thanks

Complete circuit connecting what to what?

Having the battery normally connected to the engine, and putting the meter between the negative cable connection and negative terminal of the battery.

Have you got anything plugged into the 12v sockets?  They remain powered after switch off.

There isn't much inside that could pull 16a tbh, especially without being noticeably 'on'.  I'd try pulling fuses for high consumption 'invisible' consumers personally, door modules etc.
