Focus 08 1.6 petrol automatic problem with battery light , dashboard/radio turning itself on and off and now car won’t start !

I’ve just recently had 2 new tyres fitted and a new mot which passed and literally a week or so later I’m driving to work and the battery light comes on !

The first symptoms weeks before the battery light came on , my dash board and radio wouldn’t come on when I turned the ignition at first , it could sometimes take a few seconds or even 30 seconds but would normally kick in once engine was started .

Then the radio would turn off a few times while driving. Petrol light came on couple of times when car wasn’t empty .

And also had the car not start on the first occasion a few times previously , although I’m not sure if this is related.

So the battery light comes on at first then the de mister stops working and I felt the slightest loss of power on acceleration . The next day when driving home again with battery light present , my whole electrics stopped working , radio , headlights , indicators, dash etc

i had to  Drive home in the dark with no lights ,

when I parked and turned off and tried to re start it wouldn’t start .

today all electrics barely work and then completely die and the car was clicking not starting and now no noise at all when key is turned .

I have searched on the ford forums and seen many problems which could either relate to the battery , the alternator , the three pin plug from the alternator or even general corrosion or wiring looms.

Also instrument cluster failure .

As the car won’t start I have only been able to test the battery with a multimeter with reads 11.2v . I can’t test the charging from alternator until car is on .

any suggestions or help would be appreciated .

Is there anything ruled definitely out by anything mentioned ?

11.2v is a dead flat battery. Charge it up and test it. If ok check alternator output. If ok check battery drain amps when engine off.

This appear to be a car battery issue. How old is car battery? Measured voltage indicate deep discharged battery and possibly a  dead cell. Maybe you need a new battery?

It was charged up yesterday but failed to start , first clicking noise and now nothing at all . Not sure how old battery is as it was in when car was bought . I think I may replace the battery today and see how it gets on .

I need to get it started to test alternator . At work til Friday so weekend is my best bet !
