Are wheel hubs required?

Featured Replies

I have the these wheels with the same hubcaps.

I quite like them off as they are a bit tatty, and I can't seem to find any cheaper than £12 odd each! Is there any implications by not having them on? Can I just get a center cap? Would I have to change the lugnuts?

Is there a cheaper alternative??

Also how can I fix the clear coat bubbling on the wheels? I don't want to spend too much time or money, if that's the case I will leave it!

Thanks as always!

The bubbling will need flatting off and respraying, unless you're going to do it yourself I wouldn't bother wasting the money on those wheels. Professional refurbs are around £50 ish per wheel, they/you could refurb the centre cap at the same time.

I hated those wheels on my MK2 saloon, swapping them for some MK4 Mondy Zetec wheels was one of the best "upgrades" I ever did.

Besides the look of the wheel, the biggest issue I found was the centre caps, they were ***** expensive to replace and last about 6 months before starting to mark up again.

My recently acquired Focus came with steel wheels, my 1st car in 4 decades I haven't had alloys. It's so stress free! My other car (a GT4) had £1400 spent on 18" Oz and I'm constantly worrying about kerbing, refurbishment etc etc. My focus wheels got some new wheel trims last month at a cost of £18 (for four!) LOL Don't worry about kerbing, or anything else. Honestly, can highly recommend a back to basic approach!

So are you going to put steels and trims on your GT4 too then?😉

I can't really afford new wheels at the moment! Yeah they are ***** expensive!

I brought these to see if they would work https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F292390725018

Hopefully they fit the middle bit and I'll stay with that!
