Ecoboost

Featured Replies

Hi I have an issue with my focus Ecoboost 1.0. so one day the engine just failed after intimitantly struggling to start. I took it to a garage and they said my heater matrix had cracks and the engine has seized to having coolant everywhere all in the Pistons etc. I've been reading about the DEGAS pipe issue and looked at mine but mine seems to be ok I think but I'm no expert. Do you think Ford will repair it if it has the same issues as other Ecoboost engines but not exactly the same.

heater matrix is inside the car and provides heat for you inside. it is not part of the engine (although is connected to the radiator coolant pipes). it must be another part if the coolant is inside the engine where the pistons etc are.

Go to Facebook and search ecoboom nightmare for advice👍

As Isetta said water wouldn't get into the cylinders from a heater matrix failure. Anyway if that had happened you'd have had coolant in your footwells. I believe one of the problems with the earlier ecoboosts was loss of coolant due to cracking of the manifold and I think that's more likely to be the cause. Other than that if it's lost coolant and overheated the head gasket may have blown.
