Deano12
Its annoying really. I had so many plans for my car. Only got it 2 and a bit weeks ago, but I did the wrong thing and read the Ecoboost nightmare page on Facebook. Now I'm very reluctant to spend any money upgrading my car due to the engine problems it faces. I just can't trust it. It's put such a downer on the whole thing I'm gutted :( 2.5 weeks in and I've checked the park exchange value of it which is 2k less than what I paid, but am seeing what I can get for that money. Blew every penny buying the car so am only out to lose money now. I littarally am checking the coolant every morning when I get to it, just because... the shear paranoia around it. She's a lovely car to drive and without these worries I think it would be the best car I've driven... Nick Y
If it's the EB engine with the old degas hose, you could upgrade it to solve this issue like many people have on this forum. That way, you'd have piece of mind that it's not going to split and cook the engine after dumping coolant.

I was thinking about getting the mrk3.5 version fitted but I wouldn't know what to buy or where to start.Sent from my SM-G955F using Tapatalk
Nick Y
I'm sure there will be someone on here who has made the modification to the degas hose on their Focus and could guide you through the best way of doing it.
iantt
I did mine a few weeks ago, took me all of 10 mins , sure I got partnumber and cost in my garage somewhere. I had the later degas hose on my focus as soon as the recall came out in 2015. Still ok 4yrs later, but decided to go to MK3.5 hose after wilco jw1982 did his. He is very knowledgeable so decided to get mine done . My car is on 70k and has got remap since I bought it Oct 2014. I do check my levels weekly, but that's something I've always done , not because of having a focus.

Jonanstee
Is this something that only needs to be done on the 1.0 or is it the same for the 1.6?

Deano12
Here is one of the topics on it Thanks for this. I've watched both pipes on eBay at the moment. I'm now trying to find the coolant pump mencioned. Any ideas? Sent from my SM-G955F using Tapatalk

This is only for the 1.0, the 1.6EB system is different. However there are other cooling problems with the 1.6EB, you can check whether yours is due a recall on ETIS. 21 minutes ago, Deano12 said: Thanks for this. Final question. Would Mr Joe Bloggs motor macanic round the corner know how to retrofit all of this on a MK3, as I don't have a clue and don't want to take it to Ford's. Thanks. gillyallan
It's seems crazy that the focus {like many cars} had all these faults like degas and temp sensors but for the main sorted it by mk3.5. Only to now release an all new focus with all new problems again.

Sent from my SM-G955F using Tapatalk The pipes can be easily retrofitted by even a novice DIY'er. Coolant pump requires a little more effort but a mechanic shouldn't have any trouble fitting it. 9 hours ago, gillyallan said: It's seems crazy that the focus {like many cars} had all these faults like degas and temp sensors but for the main sorted it by mk3.5. In this case, they focussed the attention on coolant loss...and missed all the clutch faults lol.
Deano12
Hey guys, another question for you.I'm having the coolant pipes changed tomorrow for the mk3.5 onesIm just wondering if this would affect any ford work I have done in the future? Also having the coolant pump retrofitted. And the fluid mount replaced.Expensive visit coming up, it's being done by an independent ford specialist in my area.
