Brake cylinder rebuild

Featured Replies

I would like some opinions on this.. would it be best to rebuild a brake drum cylinder with one of these kits or is it best to just buy new? Will the rebuild last as long?

Don’t bother with those, just replace the complete cylinder.

I wouldnt bother, more trouble  than it worth, if the seals ate that worn chance are the bores are too.

they don't cost that much to replace 🙂

In recent years I Have only used complete replacement cylinders as cheap now. Thirty years ago I used repair kits (seals), but often the bore of the cylinder would have an uneven ring of pitting in it which will shorten life of new seal. The aluminium cylinders used on some older cars eg. 1960s with Girling sliding wheel cylinders did not suffer from that quite so much but being aluminium they suffered more from stripped threads/crossed threads.
