Alternative heatshield fasteners

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of an alternative to the stupid fasteners on the heat shield? Is there a specific nut that would fit instead?

I often use washers that are meant for pinning insulation. They kinda mould to the shape. I do use the hex nut type washers too but they are damn expensive for what they are!

Failing that a washer cut from thin aluminium sheet and tiger seal lol. I do that often enough.

It's an absolute pain when the shield for the exhaust/tank hangs down it vibrates and gets in the way of handbrake cables and the nuts you get are crap I have large washers with the small holes it's just the nuts when removed seem to perish on the inside so you can't use them and the price of them is a joke.

I'd be carful the bit on the car is like a rusty old self tapper (and non replaceable - so you don't want to snap it off)) and the heat shield rots and falls apart   I just cut a bit of steel to make a mega washer hammered it in place with a socket and use the far to expensive new ford clip / nut things to screw gently in place, they take about 4 lb ft before the new ones strip and become bin material

76p each for those nuts/washers last time I bought a bag lol

Where from? thanks

I bought them from a ford dealer on eBay, I can’t see the listing now. There are bags of 10 for £12 odds! 😱
