Hi,

My name is Roger I have a late 2007 focus 1.8tdci and I’m looking information on changing the clutch. Should I change the dual mass flywheel or not and what type of transmission fluid do I use and how much? If dual ***** is advisable would I be better pulling in a solid state flywheel as I can sent the clutch I have back?

Car has just turned 100k and I plan to start this over the next week so will pop in for more info.

thanks.

I've also got a 1.8 TDCi (159K miles on the original DMF/clutch).

The 1.8 TDCi is quite a rattly engine and is a bit peaky with how it delivers its torque, neither of these behaviours will sit well with a SMF conversion so I'd definitely suggest replacing like for like.  The labour is about 5-6 hours to replace the lot so you don't want to be paying it twice, i.e. buy a decent brand clutch AND dual mass fly wheel i.e. LUK (original part), Valeo, Sachs etc, for gods sake don't buy some unbranded/cheapo crap like Transmech because you'll be lucky if it last a week without shaking itself apart.

Fluid wise you need this stuff "Part number XT-M5-QS, Ford specification WSD-M2C200-C or equivalent", it's a golden colour rather than the more common ATF "red" type.

Incidentally, you didn't say what you're reasoning was for wanting to change the clutch, is it showing signs of significant wear?

I'm confused, when it says transmission fluid I assume gearbox oil?  but the first reply mentions ATF, but it's manual not automatic.

ATF fluid isn't just used in auto boxes, certain manual boxes also use ATF type fluid.  Granted, it's primary use is in auto boxes.

Castrol Fe 75w is spec to wss-m2c200-d2 for the mtx75 gearbox
