ItsOnlyMe
My ford fiesta went to the garage to repair the turbo. This evening I noticed that the hazard warning lights are not working (they were working about a week ago and before going into the garage). The indicators are working and when I lock the car all indicator lights come on as as they are supposed to. Can anybody suggest any plugs that might need pushing on to rectify this problem. Thanks. The indicators are working It could be a fuse for the BCM (aka GEM), or the hazard switch itself. The hazard lights run off a continuous battery supply to the BCM, so could be separate from the indicator supply which may be ignition powered. There is a BCM test ---------------------- To activate the GEM self test is as follows, Switch off the ignition Switch off all other electrical consumers Apply the handbrake Shift to neutral Close the doors. Activate service mode: Proceed as follows to activate service mode: OPERATE the switch of the heated rear window and HOLD IT THERE Turn on the ignition. RELEASE the switch of the heated rear window PRESS the heated rear window switch 8 times within 6 seconds A signal sounds and the direction indicator lamps come on to indicate that service mode has been successfully activated. NOTE: If the alarm sounds (in vehicles fitted with an anti-theft alarm system), service mode cannot be activated. Input signals SWITCH the wiper switch to the "Off" position to test the input signals. The following is a list of the signals to be tested, in no particular order: Direction indicators (right, left, hazard warning lights) "Lights on" warning (terminal 58) windshield wiper (intermittent wipe) windshield washer system rear window wiper rear window washer system Doors open/closed Central locking (if fitted) Bonnet up/down (in vehicles fitted with anti-theft alarm system) Heated rear window Heated windscreen (if fitted) An acoustic signal sounds and the turn signal lamps flash to indicate receipt of each input signal by the generic electronic module. ---------------------------------- I am not sure which Mk of Fiesta that is for, but most Fords have a similar test facility. Google Fiesta GEM test, or something like that, to check if needed. It should verify if the switch signal is getting to the BCM. The BCM powers the indicators in both hazard and normal modes, so it looks like that part is working.
ItsOnlyMe
Thank you. I did the BCM test and all things beeped except the Hazard warning button. I suppose I should check the fuses that are under the bonnet first that are located close to the battery. I'm going to take a look in a moment to see if any fuses look burnt out. I would say it is 90% certain it is the Hazard switch, or its wiring to the BCM. On the Focus wiring, the Hazard switch just takes a wire from the BCM, and connects it to vehicle earth when pressed. So no additional fuses (apart from the basic BCM and indicator fuses) are in this circuit. As the BCM and indicators all seem ok, I would hazard a guess (Sorry!) that it is the switch or its wiring. One other thing to check though, hazards should work with or without ignition on. If they fail with ignition off, but work with ignition on, it could be a fuse. But if they fail in both cases, it is hard to see any fuse being the cause.
