SukiDukes
Hi all, I'm looking for some advice about hardwiring a dash cam. On a Focus (Mk3) where would it be best to hardwire my dash cam. At the moment I don't know where the internal fuse box is, and if it would be best to use this. The dash cam has a double fuse incorporated so do I need to use the fuse box if there is one inside. Basically I have 3 wires from the dash cam. One for ignition live, one for an earth, and one that is meant to trickle charge the cam during the time I am away from the car. Any advice on the best way to hard wire my dah cam will be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks Hi, on my fiesta I hard wired mine to fuse box below glove compartment and piggybacked onto rear wiper fuse for permanent live run well for 18 months now good luck.
andypsp
fuse box under your glove box, hardwire it to the ciggy/aux fuse as that becomes live when car starts. look in owners manual for the fuse number, it`s normall a 10 or 15amp fuse
Ktmpedro220
Don't think you'd want it permanently live. Maybe I wrong?Sent from my CLT-L09 using Tapatalk
Jonro2009
What camera is it? im guessing if you have a 3 wire lead then one is black (earth) one is yellow (ACC) and one is red (Bat+)? If that is right then the live feed does not ‘trickle charge’ the camera - it keeps it powered for parking mode. You will find the fusebox under the glovebox. Put your head in the passengers footwell and look at where your feet would be if you sat with them outstretched, there will be a panel of carpet trim to remove and reveal the fuses. Wire the red to a fuse that is live at all times, the yellow to one that only comes on with the ignition and the black to a screw on the chassis. on the piggyback holder just use a 2.5a fuse to protect the camera circuit. This fuse goes in the top slot with the wire coming off it, put the original fuse in the bottom slot nearest the blades and the next put the piggyback where you removed the original fuse.
Stoney871
The fusebox is under the glove box.Earth goes to any body mounted screw or bolt, switched live with a fusetap to rear wiper fuse, trickle live with a fusetap to something like the central locking fuse or another permanent live source.Your handbook will have a full fuse layout.Sent from my SM-G965F (S9+) 1

Thanks all, the info has been great and an insight, much appreciated. I want to use the dashcam in parking mode hence the hardwire just didn't know how or where I could connect, and what too. Very useful from all Kudos to all!

Sent from my CLT-L09 using Tapatalk I want to use the dashcam in parking mode so need to hardwire it, hence how to do it. The dashcam I want to fit takes a single frame from each camera once a second instead of full time video (front & Back). If activated through a knock etc it will record in video just for that action (3 mins) then return to one image a second. This prevents the battery running down and the SD card filling up or overwriting itself.
