Nothing winds me up more then trying too fix a car that doesn' want too be fixed.

Hiya all really could do with suggestions or ideas, getting quite frustrated with this Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI Yeah its the Lynx engine.

Long story short Engine Malfunction came during driving and cut all power too her engine.

Cleared the code and came back on straight away even when battery  disconnected as well.

Just too rule out a possible duff battery not powering up the ECU or sensors propyl, bought a brand new one as well.

Cambelt checked all good and timing.
Doesn't fire on easy start.
No codes detected apart from cam sensor changed and still the same.
Cracked open unions and It is getting fuel no question about that.
Engine cranks but won't fire.
Relays and fuses checked all good none of them of broken.

Checking wiring loom see if there's no split or damages still need too check the rest but so far its okay but will continue digging and see if the rest okay.

Anyone have any experience with these or know someone that does.
At the moment I'm thinking of stripping It and scrapping it, at the same time I don't want too give up just in case its something I've overlooked and can be easily repaired.

If you were me what would you do next?

If it doesn't run or at least cough on easy start you're losing compression somewhere.

What was the fault code?

I was thinking the same lines as well, when it cranks doesn't sound very rough sounds as if it wants too go it wants too start.

The malfunction fault what ever it is preventing it thinking engine damage will occur.

I'll check the code now.

That's just a boost control code (either overboost or underboost), that one shouldn't stop it starting though, just put it into limp mode.  It also shouldn't be detectable until the engines running so not sure why it won't clear.  Are you using Ford specific diags or just generic OBD?

Diesels only need compression and fuel to fire, when you spray fuel (easy start) into the intake it should fire briefly despite no fuel from the injectors.

Edit - Might be worth checking the anti shudder valve hasn't stuck closed restricting the air flow to the inlet.

Its just a basic run of the mill OBD code reader not ford specific

I'll keep you posted and I'll check it out, also been offered other engine as well for this.

Would be handy as spares as its come from a running car and injectors all the sensors the lot.

If all else fails I could go down that route.

I really would recommend Forscan as you're obviously a Ford guy!  Needs and ELM cable or dongle for about £15 but the software is free.  It's almost at the same level as the main dealer diagnostics and picks up far more faults than basic OBD does.  You can also use it for live diags and component tests.  Pretty sure it'll work on the Probe as well.

Cheers for the recommendation by the sounds of it and readying about it well worth investing.

Will make life so much easier trying diagnose rather then trying to 2nd guess most of the time.

Might work with the probe as that's all Mazda and this should read Mazda engines as well, only problem OBD1 and a simple US style diagnostic box.

Should still work if I Bridge the GND and TND terminals on the probe.

One of the PIDs that Forscan can measure is whether the ECU is actually trying to start the engine or if it's deliberately preventing it, for example if it thinks the fuel pressure is too low.  Off the top of my head I can't remember what it's called but it's essentially "Can start" and is a simple YES/NO.

What code does it through for cam sensor?

Sounds to me like it has no compression. I’d probably be tempted to scope the cam and crank sensors to look at the correlation.
