2005 StreetKa - Storage Compartment Gas Strut opening

Hi all.

I'm a new StreetKa owner and have a question regarding the opening mechanism of the roof storage compartment lid. According to several sources, there is a suggestion that the lid of the storage compartment 'Opens Automatically':

• Page 43 of the manuals reads: "Unlock the convertible top stowage compartment with the release button (5). The stowage compartment lid will open automatically (6)
• An online Ford Workshop manual says: " The convertible top compartment lid will open automatically under the pressure from the gas strut."
• A You Tube video of the Fith Gear review seems to show at 1:36 and at 1:49 the lid opening on its own under the power of the gas strut.

In the StreetKa that I have the release button unlocks the storage compartment lid and the lid lifts by a couple of centimetres. However, the gas strut certainly doesn't open the lid all the way to the vertical position. Rather, I have to manually open the lid with my hand and the gas strut merely holds it open in the vertical position.

Does anyone have a lid that fully opens under the power of the gas strut or was it just a pre-production feature that was dropped in favour of a weaker strut and they forgot to change the manual.
