I have a 2009 Focus Econetic and I recently had the dash throw up "Engine Malfunction" and the acceleration was reduced.

My normal garage code red it and said it was the DPF and my options were to try getting the dpf cleaned or replace it.  I was slightly surprised as I am doing a 60 mile round trip every day down the motorway.

I took it to a DPF specialist who connected his kit up and found 0 throughput from the DPF which he didn't think was right.  He removed the DPF sensor and took some pressure readings and came to the conclusion that the DPF was fine and the issue was that the DPF pressure sensor had failed.  He suggested I buy a sensibly priced sensor off ebay and replace it.

This I have done and I have replaced the senor.  However, I am still getting the engine malfunction alert and reduced power.  The DPF guy said I may need to get my fault codes wiped in order to get the car working normally again.

Is there a simple way to do this?  I have a basic Maxiscan OBD reader, but it isn't picking up any error codes (it didn't pick up the DPF code found by the garage).  I have tried disconnecting the battery to see if that clears it, but it hasn't.  Do I need to go back to the garage and chuck them a few quid to clear the fault code?

Thanks in advance.

Get a modified ELM327 cable from tunnelrat and download Forscan (free)

I did think about that, but I wasn't sure if Forscan would be able to clear these codes.  Would you suggest going for a wifi or wired ELM327?  It is worth me getting it because the garage will probably charge me a tenner or so for resetting it.

Take it to the garage and get them to check the codes. But were the hoses from the sensor checked for splits?

In future I would invest in an elm 327 then you don't need to rely on the garage for more faults that may occur.
