O/S MAIN HEADLIGHT/BULB

Featured Replies

Afternoon guys having a little problem with drivers side main headlight only, side light and high beam working fine.i can turn on lights and it's working then turn on lights and it's isn't,I have replaced bulb had a good look at loom and wd40,d inCase of water ingress to wiring. But still happens strange thing is if turn them on and not working I get out the car tap the headlight lightly and on it comes! Any ideas would be gratefully recieved.thanks doug

Hi Mate

If you checked all connectors try the surface of light unit where bulb touches but def a loose connection so would really look at where wires go to multi plug in headlight try sanding the pins on muti plug with a bit if sand paper or scrap them.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Alan

Was the "new" bulb actually a decent new bulb or a random spare you had lying around? One way to definitively prove the bulb would be to swap them Driver-to-Passenger side and see if the fault moves with the bulb or not.

As for tapping the unit, I've seen this fix faulty bulbs before, but the only other thing I can think of is that the electrical connector on the back of the bulb isn't seating correctly, or the bulb itself isn't seating correctly and the "tap" is making it do that. As Tekman says check the connector plug for any damage/melting and then gently clean it up with electrical contact cleaner not WD40 (if you've not got contact cleaner then vinegar can clean up copper/copper oxide at a push).
