Immobilser issue Focus 2005 (1.8 Edge)

Hi. I was wondering if anyone else had an issue with immobilisers for the Focus? I'm unable to start the car (does not turn over) and have tried to reset the key (turn from 2 position to 1 four times then press any button on key and remove from ignition) which beeps to acknowledge that I have done so. I've also disconnected/reconnected the battery and tried to no avail. Am hoping it is not a serious issue but just wondering if there was any other advise I could try?

    The key turning procedure only programs the central locking.
    The immobiliser is a seperate thing.
    Could be a broken pats chip or a duff transponder ring around the ignition barrel.
