Streetka soft top hood not collapsing completely

Got a second hand hood and refurbished it. Noticed that the seller had sheared a couple of collar bolts in the sliding mechanism near to the fixing points. Managed to sort that problem but on checking the hood it does not collapse entirely. The rear window section folds up but the front will not collapse or concertina back on itself. The roof is off the car ready for refitting to the vehicle. Could this be the problem ? Does the hood need the purchase provided when fully fitted to the vehicle ? Thanks
