1.6 TDCI Black Smoke

Featured Replies

Hello all!

This is my first post and I'm really after some advice please.

I have a 1.6 TDCI 2007 C-max, when I accelerate(foot to the floor) a hell of a lot of black smoke comes out the back.

As soon as I release off the accelerator and just travel at the speed I'm at, the black smoke reduces massively.

If I sit in the car and rev upto 3-4k RPM then minimal black smoke comes out the back.

Anyone experienced this or have any experience? I'm reading EGR valve might be sticking but so unsure! Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you all in advance!

Black smoke under load is almost always a boost leak.  It could be on the intercooler or any of the pipes between the turbo and intake mani.  Look very carefully at the metal boost pipe as the brackets can snap leaving a crack in the pipe.

Hello mate!

Thank you so much for your help.

Had my mate who is a bit more mechanically minded look at it, 3 inch tear on turbo intercooler pipe. Ordered one for £15. Should hopefully replace and that'll be it!

Thank you!
